The front desk staff was out of this world, he explained to us how to go about town and even gave us advice on how to interact with the locals. The breakfast was exquisite 😋 the rooms are very spacious.

Just generally speaking, it was desapointing. The person in charge of registration was very rude to us. We Aldo overheard them speaking very curtly to other travellers. The place was very run down. The shower head broke off as soon as we turned the water on... Even though we had paid for our stay in full, we ended up finding another place to stay. Too bad. The location is good and the place looks charming from outside.

We booked with booking, with advance payment. When we arrived they told us that everything was full and they took us to another, much worse hotel. The rooms were small, dirty and old. The shower did not work properly. One of the rooms flooded while using it. Plus it was on top of a nightclub. It's a scam, they book more rooms than they can handle and redirect customers to cheaper hotels.

I am not going to rate the facilities of the Retro Hotel because I did not get to see them. We had a reservation and upon arrival they told us that they were full and they took us to another hotel "with the same owners." The hotel in question is Kekele Square, further into the old city, above a bar with loud music until 3am. The second hotel was much worse, small rooms, dirty bathrooms, no towels, in some the shower worked poorly and water came out everywhere... We asked to change a room and they gave us no solution. Very bad management and not recommended.

I booked my stay in Stone Town for 1 night as I had a late flight. It was really cheap and really easy. The rooms were clean and the staff (Abdullah) was very helpful in booking airport transfers for me and my friend. What can sometimes be a stressful time was made easy and quick because the staff booked reliable taxis and they also had grear knowledge of the area. I was a little worried when the check-in time was for 14:00 because we arrived at 12-noon. However, the staff got a room ready for us very quickly and we manage to be able to put away our luggage in a locked room giving us few worries. For the price this place is a steal!!
