This review is to do with the service received when attempting to book a tour. My husband and I had wished to book a 4WD tour to see the abandoned town of Balfour and we were very excited to have a 4WD experience and it was to be something of a rare treat for us, a splurge for our anniversary. When booking, I thought that the charge of $200 per person was expensive, but still reasonable and something we could afford as a one off. I booked everything online and was excited. Shortly thereafter, I received a phone call from Tall Timbers, telling me that they have a minimum number of participants required to book that tour, however, I could upgrade to the 'deluxe package' which was for a private tour at $300 per person! I indicated that we couldn't afford that price and that the tour was for our anniversary and requested that they see if perhaps they might be able to find someone else who would like to join our tour. I am under no illusion that they even attempted to find another interested party and of course, when our anniversary came around (I booked several months in advance), I had to cancel the tour as they had failed to find anyone interested in joining us. Being how big Tasmania is in tourism I do find it hard to believe that no other couple would be interested in saving $200. I also find it disappointing that they would rather not go out at all and make $400 for the sake of not being able to make $600. I little bit of kindness goes a long way and we are Tasmanian locals, not wealthy tourists. It's just another example of an uncaring Tasmanian business flipping us the bird, being overpriced and only out for whatever they can wring out of gullible tourists. We ended up going to the area where the 4WDing was to take place and I daresay the track wasn't even that long and that most of the tour would have been spent travelling from Smithton.
Excellent
