My handsome chap and I visited for the weekend for his birthday. I initially booked the clay pigeon shooting and then the hotel. I had asked for a bottle of bubbly on arrival seeing as it’s a special occasion and it was chilling waiting for us when we arrived. Our room was lovely. Massive bed, plenty of storage, pretty views over the lake and really clean. Breakfast was good. Nice selection of continental and a decent full English. The hotel is in driving distance of Skipton Castle which was ace and Malham Cove which was a nice cob web blowing meander. On the Sunday we went clay pigeon shooting on the estate. Massive shout out to James, Sue and especially Jim. Who at 78 years young was patient, helpful and good fun. I had never been clay pigeon shooting before and I’d love to do it again. We shot pretend Teal, pigeon, rabbits and a few more to boot. Really well organised and just lovely people. Back at the hotel we had a fabulous Sunday lunch served by Jen and her team. Social thanks to Jen, Leanne and Beth. They honestly couldn’t have done enough for us. Professional, sweet and helpful. They even sang Happy Birthday to my lovely man…..and brought chocolate cake and a candle!! Jen was fabulous. So accommodating and lovely. The food was fabulous and we had all we needed on site. Didn’t manage to make it to the spa but will do next time. We wandered up and it looked beautiful. Lots of facilities and a lovely pool. The couples retreat and the romantic baths outside looked like a perfect place to watch the sunset. We will definitely have a day there next time we visit. The receptionists Eva and Cheryl couldn’t have been more welcoming. They were so helpful and kind. We had a little problem with the WIFI but Eva got David the estates manager to fix it for us. Again he was helpful and kind. The staff here really make this place. Everyone was so lovely and really made our stay a relaxing one. Can’t wait to go back and sample the spa and maybe try some archery this time!
