The Railway

Small and friendly The Railway is a small friendly hotel. Check in was easy, the room was comfortable and very clean, well decorated.

Wonderful Lovely stay in a great location. Street parking or large pay car park close by.

Arrived and had a drink in the bar first. We were told breakfast would be between 8 & 9 am which seemed early for Sunday morning. We had a rare opportunity of a night away and really wanted a chance to relax. Unfortunately, this wasn’t to be. We were shown how to exit and enter the building after the pub closed at 9 pm. The staircase up to the room was dated and uncared for so not a good first impression. The room was small but clean. The decor was very old fashioned. The bathroom was once again clean but dated and had a damp smell and the grout / sealant was yellow. The double bed was awful. It was so lumpy where your legs were higher than your bottom/ stomach when lying down due to the sag and lack of support in the mattress. We could feel the springs in the bed so didn’t manage to rest as much as we hoped. Due to the lack of sleep, we made the early breakfast. It was ok, quite greasy but the coffee was good. At 10.30 we had a knock on our door to ask if we were leaving today. On checking in We weren’t told check out times so Googled it which said 11am. However, we were corrected that it was actually 10am. So we found ourselves rushing which was the whole reason we took an overnight break. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you want rest.
