It takes about 19 minutes to walk from the station to the hotel. It is near the hot spring street, so it doesn't feel too far. The hotel's hot spring bath is small and the open-air bath is very comfortable. Dinner and breakfast are rich and delicious😋. When we left, the hotel also arranged a taxi to pick us up from the station, which was very considerate.

GGuest UserOnsen hotel offering excellent service, superb food and privacy.
Service was next to nothing, staff offered Salmon sushi and malt tea at no extra cost as I choosed to skip breakfast to catch up with early bus schedule. The room was very clean and quite spacious.
Dinner and breakfast was in Kaiseki style. The food was excellent, particularly the sashimi and the Hida beef (both grilled and sukiyaki). The use of local ingredients added to the uniqueness of the experience.
The onsen was not big but cozy. Considering the hotel has about 20 rooms only, it offer very good privacy and I enjoyed the public bath twice alone in my 2 days stay. Rental private bath was a good surprise and worth to try if you are traveling in pair.
Location is a bit far from train and bus station up on the top of the hill, but the the pickup service and a nice view of the mountain compensated for that.
GGuest UserOur stay at Suimeikan in Gero was nothing short of amazing. Despite the hotel's age, it has maintained its charm and offers a truly remarkable experience. The facilities were well-kept, and the traditional ambiance combined with modern conveniences made our visit both relaxing and comfortable. The onsen was a highlight, offering a serene and rejuvenating experience. The staff were incredibly attentive and made us feel welcomed throughout our stay. Suimeikan perfectly captures the essence of Gero – a blend of timeless beauty and exceptional service. Highly recommended!
토토라미It is not expensive for a ryokan, but I think it is a really good value for money accommodation. There were some reviews that said the kaiseki was not that great, but
there were more kinds than I thought and it was delicious, so I ordered sake separately and ate it deliciously. Above all, the hot spring water is smooth and really good, so I recommend using the hot spring at least twice, once in the evening and once in the morning. It was a pretty accommodation when it snowed.

Unfortunately, my experience at this hot spring hotel did not meet expectations. The dinner service was particularly lacking. The food had already been set up in the room before we arrived, and the waiter offered minimal assistance, only asking if we had lit the fire. There was no explanation of the dishes, nor was a menu provided. To make matters worse, the necessary cutlery for different courses was repeatedly overlooked, which detracted from the overall dining experience. The food itself was unremarkable and didn’t compare to what other hot spring hotels typically offer.
The private onsen also posed a challenge. The water switch was broken, leaving no way to adjust the temperature or water flow, resulting in water that was uncomfortably hot throughout our stay. Breakfast the next morning was very basic and lacked the variety or creativity I’ve come to expect from similar establishments. Overall, the hotel did not live up to the standards I’ve experienced elsewhere and left much room for improvement.
RRachotI recently stayed at this hotel and was thoroughly impressed. The service was exceptional, with staff going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. The onsen was a highlight—clean, well-maintained, and incredibly relaxing. The accommodation was spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed, offering a perfect blend of comfort and style. Highly recommended for those seeking a serene and luxurious experience!
GGuest UserAn old hotel that retains its grandness..
Although at check in, I was informed there's a charge only if I take the flowery yukata. There are free surprises in the Japanese room every day.
Clean Japanese socks, towels in bags and a different Japanese sweet every day with Japanese tea
My room faces the Hida River, it was beautiful looking out. It is very near the rail line, but it didn't disturb me.
And I suppose all river facing hotels face the same light loving insects. But if you follow the instructions placed in the room, it is alright
GGuest UserThe hotel is settled in the middle of Gero Hot Spring town, short walk from the train station and can also be reached via bus from Kamikochi area.
The hotel itself is very clean and well maintained. You can feel the spirit of older times in this hotel with a lot of beautifully selected decoration pieces.
The manager showed us around and even offered us a new room since I accidentally booked one without shower (we declined that offer since we only wanted to stay for one night). That’s why we used the Onsen area for showering which is beautiful and includes all amenities. View above Gero and including an outside Onsen area to watch the sunrise.
The staff was very friendly, the manager even drove us to the bus station since we forgot our jackets in the bus. The bar is well-equipped and a great place for a drink or two.
One of the best parts was the breakfast. Never had such a good Japanese breakfast before- delicious, served in a private room, beautifully arranged. Next time we want to try their dinner :-)
We felt like family and I can recommend anyone going to Gero to stay at this great hotel! Thanks again for your hospitality!
GGuest UserExcellent! Very satisfied for this onsen hotel!! Definitely recommend this accommodation to friends and family. Everything is over expectation: services, facilities, room, public bath (onsen), food, and all. One drawback would be language barrier between some staff, but they really trying to communicate with us which is impressive. Also, there is a free shuttle bus service between train station and hotel during daytime, very convenient. Tips for me is to book this hotel on weekdays, it is half price cheaper than weekends or holidays.
環環遊寶寶The location is on the top of the mountain, which is more convenient for self-driving. The terrace room has a beautiful scenery, facing the river, and is cost-effective. The dinner is buffet style, with all you can drink, and ice cream is provided.
GGuest UserThe exterior picture of the hotel is not consistent with the reality. There is no Japanese-style entrance location. If you need pick-up service, you may need to inform in advance. In addition, there is a private bath on the 2nd floor, and you must make an appointment in advance. All the waiters are very nice and they will rent yukata for free, which I am very satisfied with. Everything in the room was good, but the hotel facilities were a bit old, including the Wi-Fi connection which took a while and was not used effectively. In addition, the large public bath and open-air bath are also of an old-style design. There are no locked lockers. The lights are a bit pale at night and there are not many people. I hope the hotel can replace them with brighter lights. Meals will be served in the room, and the taste is not too special.
