When we arrived at the Swiss Cottage we got a very unfriendly rude greeting from Kieth, he opened the door with no shirt on which is not the welcome I expected, we arrived 30 mins early and when I said we had a booking he just looked at me and said I’m not a mind reader (whatever that meant). We asked about parking because we didn’t want to get blocked in and he rudely replied not my problem. When we asked any questions he was very abrupt, and said if you wait I’ll tell you, unprofessional. We had 1 clean towel in all the 6 nights we was there, I put them down as it says if you want clean towels only to find them hung back up with a note left in the room. Breakfast was a very unfriendly environment and it was very poor in the quality of the produce and the unfriendly manner it was served. If I’d not paid upfront when Kieth opened the door when we arrived I would have just left and found somewhere else to stay, I could not wait to leave, we’ve been going to the Isle of Wight for over 20 years and this is the worst place I’ve ever stayed. My advice is if you don’t want to accommodate people get out of the business and stop spoiling people’s hard earned days away.

Hosts Christine & Keith are super lovely, friendly, and welcoming. Our room was lovely and clean and comfortable, with lots of storage. The shower was hot. Other areas of the hotel were lovely and clean. Breakfasts were tasty, lovely coffee, lots of choice. Cater for special dietary needs. Local information available, with lots of attraction leaflets available. 10mins walk to Shanklin beach, 5mins walk to Shanklin High Street. Staying here really made our time away all the more lovely.

Swiss Cottage is very clean, beds comfortable, and everything OK room wise. Nicely situated too. I was booked room only. I phoned ahead to say I was arriving imminently, Christine opened the door and introduced herself, she obviously knew who I was because we had spoken on the phone prior. I introduced my son-in-law who had dropped me off and was helping me with my suitcase. Christine did not speak to him at all. We were shown into the room and Christine said there is a case stand, I think it's in the wardrobe She then showed me how the shower worked and then left the room. We thought she wasn't very welcoming. I stayed from Saturday until Wednesday although I was booked for the whole week. I was disconcerted that I didn't see or hear anyone during that time. I did see a man in main doorway once but if it was Keith he didn't say hello. I thought it was probably someone come to do a job. There was never anyone about and certainly no quiz going on in the lounge as Keith said there was. I do agree with people who said about feeling unwelcome. Perhaps if you're room only you don't get to see the hosts. I was tiptoeing down the stairs in case I disturbed the equilibrium, I was so nervous in the end I asked my son-in-law to collect me early. By the way the key to the room door is very old Keith you might be able to use it easily but there is a knack to getting it to turn the lock, you can find it easy because you're used to it! Front door lock is a pain too. I left at 9.30 in the mornings and came back at 9.30pm so no guests in any lounge, and NO QUIZ on the Saturday evening. As I said, can't fault accomodation but strange atmosphere. No happy smiley people here.

Keith and Christine are lovely friendly people. Loved the dogs as well. We had a great few days staying here. The place is spotlessly clean and the extra little touches of face cleansing pads and hair towel in the room was nice as was the complimentary bottles of water on the first night. The location is excellent as it is within easy walking distance to the beach and the Old Village which is delightful. It is so lovely to see that some places are still trusting in this day and age with all that is happening in the country. There is a small bar on the premises and we were told that if no one was around just help yourself and note down what you had and pay when you leave. Christine did the breakfasts in the morning and the food was good quality and tasty. Keith and Christine go out of their way to may you welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay on the Isle if Wight

My parents and I have just returned from a six day stay. There are some positives about this hotel. The breakfast choices were plentiful including; cereal, yoghurts and the option of any seven cooked items. Plus toast and tea or coffee, you certainly won't go hungry. The hotel is very clean and the proprietors clearly take pride in this. Keith ( one of the proprietors) was very friendly and welcoming. He clearly enjoys chatting to people of all ages and from different places. There are however, a few negatives, which need to be highlighted. The hotel is in need of modernisation, the decor is dated and quite tired. Each room has a 'useful' folder containing lots of information about the property and surrounding area, within this file is also a lot of 'rules' which guests need to adhere to. The tone of these 'rules' were verging on the dictatorial and were wholly inappropriate considering the age range of the guests ( over 60s and beyond) My final point relates to the fact that we were departing quite early on our final morning-around 8am. In all our past experiences of staying at B&B's, we have always been offered a breakfast before we leave. Not in this case!! As we were due to go before the allotted breakfast time, no food was offered. My parents are both over 80 and my mum is diabetic, I was utterly appalled that we werent even offered cereal and toast. This sums up the tone of our experience at The Swiss Cottage and we won't be returning.

Had a great & very comfortable stay with a lovely breakfast. Christine & Keith are very welcoming and organised, they have thought of everything their guests may need during their stay. Location is really good as only 10 minutes to the restaurants in pretty Old Shanklin High St and also same distance down to the beach.

The proprietors were lovely people who went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and had a good stay. Very friendly. Would definitely stay there again. Everything was provided in the room, even more than some hotels I have stayed in.
