I've had to think about this review as it's not straightforward! It is a modern hotel with good sized rooms, comfortable beds, tasteful furnishings and wetrooms. Breakfast offers a decent selection of food and cooked items were great apart from the day that the chef wasn't in and we also had to wait 40 minutes. The staff work really hard but are clearly stretched. So to the tricky part of the review. As the hotel is run on a skeleton staff usually only one member of staff is there and that person is running around like the proverbial fly. At breakfast they must cover miles. Reception is unmanned if they are doing something else (waiting tables, serving drinks, servicing rooms). The rooms are not fully serviced on a daily basis and room trays are not always restocked (although when the lovely housekeeper services your room it is done properly). One of our rooms had a problem with the toilet which had to be fixed every day we were there. The tv in the other room didn't work properly and when showering the whole bathroom floor was covered in water. There were also multiple holes in walls which wouldn't have taken much maintenance to rectify. So, if you don't mind some niggles and watching staff charging around every day the position of the hotel is very good (Shanklin town centre and many restaurants close by) and it is clean and modern. It suited us well hence the 4 stars but it could be so much better.

Average at best although could be very good with some effort. Had a long wait to check in, broken bathroom door, cobwebs around the ceilings and stains on the carpet. Unfortunately breakfast earliest was 8:00am so if staying for work prepare for a late start, chef was laying up tables still no sign of another staff member for 15mins, had to ask other guests how it worked in reference to the seating and helping yourself to if that was the case, took over 30mins to get breakfast even though I was the second person in I didn’t get out the hotel until 9. Good points the bed was comfortable, and the breakfast was good when I got it, the limited staff were polite and friendly.

Nice little hotel in Shanklin in a good location. Disappointing not to have a regular receptionist on hand. Room was nice but double bed was very small, there was room for a bigger bed so not sure why there isn’t one. There were also cobwebs on the ceiling and stains in the wall under window, not sure why these couldn’t have been properly cleaned. Bathroom looks nice but not great as a wet room as the water doesn’t properly dry up. The breakfast is lovely and cooked to order. Staff were really nice. Good bar but awkward layout doesn’t make it very welcoming. Nice deck out front with lovely view of the church opposite.

Beautifully appointed boutique hotel. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were also superb, will definitely book again when we next visit the Isle of Wight.

Highly recommend this lovely hotel. Lucas the concierge was welcoming generous and helpful. Even made an excellent G&T in the bar. Breakfast fleshly cooked to order and delicious. Thankyou.

We stayed at The Fig Tree over half term and the price was really good for the location. It’s close to the lift down to the seafront, which made getting around easy. The dining area is lovely and modern, and our bed was very comfortable — we both slept well. The bathroom was a real highlight with a fantastic rainfall shower and complimentary shower gel that smelt amazing. All of the staff we spoke to during our stay were lovely, they all just seemed to be doing a million things at once. On the downside, there were no towels in the room on arrival (though the receptionist was very apologetic when we asked), and breakfast was a bit disappointing with limited choice and food running out quickly. With only one staff member trying to do everything, service really suffered. The room itself also needed some attention — a big stain on the carpet, shredded net curtains with bird mess on them, and lots of scuffs on the walls. The hallways and stairs could also do with a proper clean. Parking was available but quite limited and tight. Overall, we enjoyed parts of our stay but felt the standards let it down. We wouldn’t choose to return on a future trip to the Isle of Wight, one part due to the hotel and another because we'd like to explore another area.

A mixed bag. Initial room (double) was too small, so we upgraded and paid the additional charge. Room decor was nice and the shower was great - good pressure and temperature. The room was cool and easy to sleep in. Also, the staff were very friendly. So that’s all positive. Where the hotel let itself down was it seemed to be chronically understaffed. Breakfast typified this. The whole evolution took well over an hour, from seating ourselves, being given a menu, ordering the food and then it arriving. This was frustrating, as it was a relatively set menu with limited choices, so should be easy to do. There seemed to be only one member of waiting staff on duty, albeit working very hard. Room service was not evident over the Wed-Sat stay - towels not replaced, bed not made, even loo roll not re-stocked. So that cast a shadow over the rest of the stay which was generally good.
