Our experience at Mandinka Lodge in The Gambia was unforgettable, all thanks to Diane, Lamin, and their excellent team. From the moment we arrived, they went out of their way to ensure our stay was exceptional, providing valuable insight into the country and suggesting day trips like Paradise Beach, where we experienced delicious fish and chips from the cafe and local juices from Babucarr and Alex. On our way back to the lodge, we were lucky to stop at the Tanji fish market to witness the fishing boats being unloaded - smelly but well worth the experience. Diane and Lamin were always available, and Diane's optional breakfast was delicious. We also enjoyed trying the locally made Baobab Juice and Wonjo Juice. If we preferred to stay in for dinner, Lamin would arrange for us to have a local takeaway, and Diane would supply beer for a small cost. The lodge's natural ambience was remarkable, with a roof crafted from coconut palms, screened windows, and a charming porch. The rooms were cosy, with a mosquito net-covered bed, tiled floors, and rattan furniture, and the closet provided ample hanging space. Although there was a safe available, we felt secure and didn't need to utilise it. The pool area was stunning and served as the perfect place to unwind after exploring the area. Additionally, we embraced the local custom of showering with a bucket and cup, which, although it might seem unfamiliar to some, was quite an exhilarating experience, especially when using cold water. Overall, we highly recommend Mandinka Lodge to anyone seeking an exceptional experience in The Gambia. Diane, Lamin, and their team went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable, and we are grateful for their hospitality.
