Loved it at Leybato... Gambian owned by Mr Saihou Demba who is always around and smiling. There was an issue with our booking the first night but it was quickly resolved and all was good. The staff are so friendly, the location perfect and the breakfast very good. Some might call it 'basic' but we loved it. When the electricity cut out, which happens in The Gambia, the generator was quick to be put on. The food at the hotel is good. We will definitely go back. Highly recommend Lamin, the tour guide ... Just ask for him at the hotel. His prices are very reasonable and he's a quiet, knowledgeable and gentle man. We went to Lamin Lodge with him and to the airport on our departure. Bob's Cafe just around the corner does amazing sandwiches for only GMD100, and cold drinks, Bob himself is great to chat to. Yankouba the Tailor just next to Bob's is superb. His quality is exceptional, has a good range of fabric to choose from, or take your own. He made us a jacket, 3 dresses and 2 trousers. Another great place to eat nearby is in walking distance.... Opposite the golf club is a local Cafe run by Oumar. He's closed on Fridays but every day cooks something different. We had fish Benachin there for Gambian prices.... Delicious! We took our own tomato's and cucumber which he cut up for us and shared with other folk. It's a great place to stay. A lovely walk on the beach to other places, or pop to Bakau Market and fishing beach, walk around Fajara.... Not as 'touristy' as further up the beach.
