The staff, notably friendly, adds a welcoming touch to the refined atmosphere. Now, onto the culinary journey – it's nothing short of outstanding. In the midst of sophistication, this hotel charms with great food and a warm ambiance. Special shout out to Turban Man Rigved who looked after us ,we were a group of 14 for Sunday lunch , he made sure wines were topped up ,our all needs were taken care, excellent service. Made our experience beyond amazing.

Very impressed with the afternoon tea for 2. From reserving the table, to enjoying the food and atmosphere was very easy and enjoyable. Our waiter RIGVED was very welcoming and explained everything to us as we have not done this before. He was checking back to see if everything was OK and needed any more tea. I would definitely recommend this experience to anybody.

We had a lovely afternoon tea at the restaurant; the service was wonderful, Rigved was kind and available the whole evening and the Christmas decorations and lake view made it the perfect beginning first evening of December. We will be back!

Stayed here for one night in a Deluxe Garden View Room, Silver Birch. Lovely warm welcome from the girl at reception, really friendly and took an interest in what our plans were. Room itself so comfy, lovely bed and super bathroom hidden behind the wardrobe doors, great walk in shower. Had a drink in the bar and the young lad ( sorry didn't get his name) was great fun. We arrived for breakfast just at 10am. My husband had an omelette which he loved. I had avocado on toast, poached eggs were very overdone and avocado was tasteless but the buffet was great, we didn't let it deter from a great stay. Having stayed at Sopwell house a few times, we now have a new favourite in St Michael's Manor. Give this place a go, you won't be disappointed.

Having been born and brought up in St Albans, moving away as an early teenager and joining the RAF travelled and lived all over. Been back " home" several times but not for over 20 years and getting older it was a nostalgic return. I had high expectations from the hotel, knowing the area really well. St Michaels Manor matched those expectations. Service and attention were superb and the garden room leading down to the lake was lovely. An emotional and nostalgic return to my home town enhanced by a lovely stay at St Michaels Manor.

We came as a large group for afternoon tea and the service and food was excellent. The hotel is decorated beautifully for Christmas. A big thank you to Rigved who served us, he was very polite and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you again - we will certainly be returning ♥️

We had a terrible stay and its sad really as when visited previously experience has always been good. First of all we called the day prior to attending to ask what time check in was , we were told 3pm , I asked if it was possible to check in a little earlier as we had an event to attend at 4pm and needed to have time to unpack , shower and get ready - was told that they would make sure our intended room was cleaned first so that we could get checked in latest 2.30pm . Arrived to be met by the most arogant unhelpful lady on reception , when I explained the check in arrangement - she just shrugged her shoulders and said no it was a full house last night you will need to wait till 3 nothing I can do - not even the offer to check see if possible just a shrug and who cares attitude . when I eventually was allowed to check in ( by this time the receptionist had changed to a very pleasant young girl ) I went to the room and was so underwhelmed - the rooms used to be immaculate and smell nice and look presentable - we were met with cracked tiles on the floor as you enter the bathroom and a musty smell . Then to top the stay off we went down for breakfast the next morning - same rude receptionist back again saw us walk past to the dining hall ( which is where breakfast used to be served ) - found an empty dining room so walked back and asked where breakfast was - she said oh its moved we have got it on a notice here ( an A4 piece of paper with the smallest font - covered by a christmas tree very helpful ) she then very smuggly said - you have missed breakfast anyway ! It was 9.30am and apparently you stop serving at 9.30 am ! which in itself is crazy it always used to be 10 am - are people not allowed to lay in a little while with you , considering had been at an event the night before and was not told prior that breakfast was till 9.30 am ! We explained we had paid for breakfast and could she do anything ( maybe offer us at least a coffee and a croissant ) but no she just said you will need to walk in to town lots of cafes there ! Not someone i would want working for me , her customer service was beyond terrible - so all in all the worst experience and will not be returning . St Michaels Manor has certainly lost its charm and luxury feel - would give a minus if i could

A home from home atmosphere that keeps us returning. We absolutely love the venue and the staff are so helpful, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Noelia and Ellie on Reception are amazing and Petra (Restaurant) always goes above and beyond. We cant wait to return soon to soak up the festive atmosphere.
