Comfort Inn & Suites West - Medical Center

I’m leaving this review to warn future guests about major concerns at Comfort Inn & Suites – West Medical Center (2005 Commerce Dr NW, Rochester, MN). The current Front Desk Manager, Jade Sweeney, has a public criminal record that includes multiple convictions for theft, issuing dishonored checks, and DWI offenses. Despite this, she is trusted with sensitive guest information and credit card access. Even more disturbing, several guests have reported unauthorized credit card charges after submitting authorization forms at the front desk. These complaints have been reported to the Rochester Police Department and are part of an ongoing criminal investigation. To make matters worse, the hotel recently fired the best manager they’ve had in a long time, based on hearsay and very inaccurate information. That manager turned what was once a run-down property into a much-improved hotel starting back in February. The difference was obvious to regular guests like myself. Letting someone with that kind of impact and dedication go is not just a loss—it’s a failure of leadership and a disservice to both the staff and the guests. Until major changes are made in staffing, leadership, and guest protections, I do not recommend staying at this property.

A very nice, clean suite with great beds & linens, quiet & pretty sound proof - room #321. We were NOT comfortable spending time in the room even though we had a suite with a wrap around sofa. We thought the extra space with a sofa would be great BUT the room layout was very poor. The TV is rather small and oriented for use from the beds. Although it turns, it is far to the right [not good for your twisted neck] and a long way from your eyes. There is no ceiling light, light to your side or light in back of the sofa so you can read, work, computer or do any other fine skill /hobby. The closest lamp is on a table, far in front next to the hallway to your door AND it has a 1/4 candlepower energy saver bulb in it - pretty much useless - except that it is right underneath the thermostat and made enough heat so that it was hard to control the robust air conditioner. I'm all for saving energy and see well in the dark but the room was so dim at night that even with ALL the lights on it was hard to read or find anything in your suitcase. Night one we almost froze to death. Night two we moved the lamp away from the thermostat and were smarter about setting it so the temp was better but the thermostat still was inconsistent, cycling between warm and very cold and windy all night long. This conditioner fan was either on full blast or off, unlike some hotels with variable speed.

We selected the Comfort Inn because we stayed here before and the free shuttle to Mayo. Be advised that the shuttle stops at 5:30 and does not operate on weekends. The accommodations were clean and comfortable sleeping.

I am on the road all of the time. When I check into a hotel, I hope that the elevator works and that there is hot water for a shower. Unfortunately, I had neither of these. Staff was great, place was great, but basic hotel maintenance not so great. That's not on the staff that's on the owner.

Nice hotel. Great location with dining and shopping options very close. Entire facility is well maintained and clean. Ok breakfast.

Overall it was an ok stay but I probably wont be staying at this hotel again next time we are in Rochester. We were able to check in early which was very helpful. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly. There were issues with the front door while we were there. We stayed 3 nights and didn’t get any garbage pick up or towel refreshing while there. We had issues with card keys working in our door. I did like the location. Lots of food options and coffee options. I instantly disliked the hotel once I discovered they don’t have freshly brewed coffee. The automated coffee is the worst in my opinion. Room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Overall, breakfast was good and lots of options.
