Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga

Nice standard room. Service was great. Serves breakfast with Asian style.

For a 5-star hotel, our experience at Kempinski Riga was very disappointing. There was no special welcome on arrival, and even though check-in starts at 14:00, our room was not ready — the baby cot we had requested wasn’t assembled even after we returned from the SPA and reminded staff. Service overall felt inattentive. A spilled coffee and a request to refresh the prosecco setup were ignored, and the bottle we had paid for was only handed over at checkout without any apology or gesture. When asking to refill a personal water bottle, reception staff seemed confused and reluctant until a senior colleague stepped in. For a luxury hotel, such a simple and eco-friendly request should be handled with ease. The WiFi was another major issue. It only worked through a captive portal, which made it impossible to connect our baby monitor. Captive portals are frustrating, less secure, and outdated — a 5-star property should offer a simple, secure, password-protected network. Overall, this was the worst 5-star experience we’ve had and we cannot recommend Kempinski Riga to friends or fellow travelers.

Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga was hands down the most luxurious and comfortable stay of our entire trip through the Baltic countries. Our room was spacious and beautiful, very well suited for three with a master bedroom and a large living room with pull out. The location couldn't be better and we loved being able to explore the city on foot. Service was consistently friendly and helpful. This is the place to stay in Riga!

The Kempinsky Riga is a very nice, comfortable hotel with a near perfect location in the center of Riga. Our beautiful room was modern, elegant, large and very convenient. The pool/spa is excellent and has enough attractions (multiple saunas, large pool, steam room, foot massage, etc) to occupy someone for hours. Also great if you are traveling with kids. The hotel lobby itself, is a bit cold and feels like a German makeover of a Communist-era grand hotel. When we arrived, there was no other guests in the lobby and it felt almost spooky. Another downside was that the concierge didn't start his shift until about 10am which was very inconvenient for morning planning. Neither one of these issues is a reason not to stay at this hotel, but for the price that the hotel charges in a city where most hotels are much cheaper, I think they need to aim for perfection.
