Guesthouse Galtafell

Overall is good.

A convenient place to stay and less expensive than hotels, but taping individual notes to the front door with your name and the number of your room and indicating that the key is in the door is a security risk and a privacy invasion. I’d hoped this was something temporary, like the manager was ill, perhaps, but I see from past reviews that this is not the case. It’s inexplicable in a place as highly rated as this. I wouldn’t recommend it, unfortunately.

We loved this guesthouse! Friendly and super clean inn. The apartment was perfect for 4 of us with an efficiency kitchen and kitchen table. We walked to all the great spots in town. It is in a pretty residential neighborhood by the river and was fairly easy to park on the street. Highly recommend.

Our three day stay at Guesthouse Galtafell was very good! Great location in the city; we could explore for half a day, go back to our room to relax, and then explore further. Clean, good beds, large room with kitchenette & sitting area in a convenient, quiet location.

I booked this guesthouse for 5 days for my stay in Iceland. The day after I paid the whole amount within booking unfortunately I had a bad and serious family problem which did not allow me to travel there anymore. I explained everything to them by email, kindly asking if it was possible to save a bit of money or to pay just 2 nights for example instead of 5. They did not give a **** and took all my 500€! As written on the title, SHAMEFUL

We stayed at Guesthouse Galtafell for 2 non consecutive nights; once on our first night and once on our last night. Thorey the owner was helpful and efficient with the email communication before our trip. We were able to store luggage outside of normal check-in hours. The Guesthouse was well located (approx. 200m from the Iconic church' and offered us a cheaper option compared to the hotels. The rooms were clean and comfortable but quite small. We didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on that. It was one of the few places we stayed at in Iceland that had a TV. Only street parking is available but we didn't feel like we needed a car in Reykjavik so that didn't bother us. The streets are tight though and the bus transfer we got from the port was only able to drop us about 500m away which was not ideal with lots of luggage. My tip is to get a taxi and not a bus if you are getting a transfer from a cruise. If you are looking for a clean, well located, and well priced stay in Reykjavik the GG is a great option.
