Aquila Porto Rethymno

Service at this hotel from the staff is definately above and beyond!! Could not fault them! Buffet breakfast and lunch and dinner had great choice! Rooms were spotless and cleaned every day!! Loved our fitness regime with elena every morning!! What a joy she is, so enthusiastic and good at encouraging you! Stella in the bar was brilliant. And Vassy went above and beyond at porto restaurant for our 40th anniversary. Spa treatments were fab esp cretan massage! All in all hotel is amazing and beach is fab only downside was the busy noisy road... but that's not the fault of hotel or staff. Otherwise it would be 5 *

When we arrived there were some steps or a steep ramp to negotiate, leading to the reception. Although we are fit and healthy it was a bit of a struggle getting up with luggage, however you could leave your bags at the bottom and ask for porter assistance. We stayed in a standard twin room with a balcony. This was not a room that has yet been refurbished but it wasn’t worn or tired looking . The room was not what I’d described as spacious but it did have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The beds were comfortable, there was a bath as well as a shower. The toiletries provided were of a good standard. The rooms were spotlessly clean and serviced daily as you’d expect. We had no complaints! The staff were super helpful throughout the hotel. There are two lovely pools but we preferred the beach which is located opposite the hotel. This hotel is a short walk from the old town which is very pretty with lots of shops and tavernas. There is a public bus station about a 25 minute walk away. We used it for a trip to Chania, it was €28 return for two people. Once in Chania you are only a five minute walk from the centre. We were half board, the food was great at breakfast and lunch but dinner for us was rather disappointing. We asked if we could swap dinner for lunch and there was no problem with that. We heard lots of positive comments from other guests about the good, so perhaps it just wasn’t for us. We booked with Tui, on departure we didn’t know where the bus was going to pick up and staff advised we stand on the corner to see which direction the bus approached from. This is more of a criticism for the tour operator, they should have informed us where the pick up point is, so ask the rep if you book a package. There is very little negative to say, this is a lovely hotel in a great location. We had a fabulous stay, it’s most definitely somewhere I would return to and it’s not often I say that. This is not one of the most expensive hotels I’ve stayed in but it’s all round one of the best.

Having been to the Aquila Porto Rethymno many times since it was built the hotel never ceases to impress. The staff are really well trained and are always helpful and rooms are spotlessly clean Food in the restaurant has a wide selection and is suitable for most tastes Returning clients always receive a warm welcome My late wife and I brought our family here and the beach and pools were good for children although the hotel is perhaps more suited to adults Plenty to see in the old town about 15 minutes walk away and an excellent local bus service

Not a 5* hotel no luxury and extremely poor buffet restaurant. Hotel bedrooms and corridors are shabby and in desperate need of refurbishment and new carpets. Buffet restaurant is too small for hotel size resulting in lots of queuing and physically bumping into other guest. Food is batch cooked in main kitchen and served in small dishes to buffet hot plates as required resulting in cold or tepid food at best. Hotel staff are not overly friendly. Hotel lacks atmosphere as entertainment and drinks are served in adjacent cafe building. Both pools are small and rarely see any sunshine due to shaded position. Beach across main road is very nice. There is excessive road noise especially in rooms to east side of hotel. Tourist tax is charged at €15 for a 5* in Greece this is 3* plus at best.

Very friendly Hotel every member of staff was so helpful. And even the managers made our holiday special. It is so clean and the food was amazing. Nothing was to much trouble, we will go back and for me to say that it must have been good. If you are looking for something nice please go and book in you want regret it. From Pat.
