We have just checked out from the RPJ Hotel following a three night stay visiting from the UK to watch the India v England T20 match in Rajkot. Check-in was a smooth process and we had help with our bags which was a nice touch. We booked three ‘Executive Rooms’ and on entering, we were presented with a large sized room. Initial impressions were good - however, that quickly changed when opening the bathroom door. The sink basin, toilet and shower head all had stains and it felt very dirty and unclean. The floor was stained and chipped. The bed was comfortable and the room itself was great. Breakfast was good with friendly staff in the restaurant. We then encountered a few issues. Whenever we book a hotel abroad, a gym and a swimming pool is a must for us - it’s what we need to relax and rejuvenate from a very busy home life in the UK. Both were not available during our stay because of refurbishment. Had the hotel stated that both were unavailable prior to booking. then we would not have stayed here - we would have chosen another hotel that offered those facilities as that is what we look for when staying abroad. To say that the hotel has a gym and a pool which were both not available during the refurbishment, this was very disappointing and is misleading / misrepresentation. We will be taking the matter further on our return to the UK. When we complained to Reception, there was nothing that could be done. A free meal was offered, but it did not work for us in terms of timing as they offered a free lunch which started m at 12.30pm and we were due to leave the hotel at 1.00. We asked for the matter to be escalated to Management, however the matter was left for the reception staff to deal with - it’s very cowardly for Management to stay in their offices and to leave the reception staff to relay messages instead of fronting up to complaining customers. Staff generally are very welcoming and friendly - credit to Shyam for his warm welcome every morning and help. He is a credit to the hotel. However, based on the issues we encountered and the lack of assistance from Management when we raised a complaint which was non-existence, we will not be returning to the RPJ Hotel should we find ourselves requiring a stay in Rajkot.
