I recently stayed at The Sandbanks Hotel for three nights with friends. Unfortunately, despite its 4-star rating along with the very high prices, the experience was mediocre at best. I travel frequently and stay in many hotels of similar grade at a much lower cost with better service. I’ve never experienced service quite like you get at Sandbanks Hotel. This was not our first visit, fourth or fifth in fact, and sadly, another year has brought another round of similar shortcomings. It seems that with such limited choice of beachside hotels in the area, this might simply be the best of a bad bunch, which is why we keep returning despite the frustrations. Service remains inconsistent as ever. The terrace bar, even when it is busy with customers enjoying the good weather, it closes early without warning. One afternoon when the heavens opened, we found the inside bar unmanned and were surprisingly told by reception to go back outside to be served there, unbelievable. Breakfast. Although the actual breakfast is good, there was a slight issue. Paper coffee cups were available for takeaway for the first two days, only to be abruptly removed on the third day, with staff insisting they were “not allowed.” Odd, given we had been using them without an issue the previous two days. Staff in general seem young, inexperienced, and not particularly friendly, more as if they are reluctantly filling a summer job than genuinely engaged in hospitality. Such a shame. Overall, while the hotel’s location is unquestionably good, the service, atmosphere, and value for money leave a lot to be desired. Until better options appear in Sandbanks, this may remain the only fitting choice, but it’s far from the standard one would expect from a true 4-star property with high end pricing.

70th Birthdays and 50th Wedding anniversary present from my brother and sister in law....and we did enjoy our nights stay with breakfast so much. Our hotel room was spotless, that's more important to me than the furniture being a little dated. Large comfy king sized bed, the room was warm but didn't spoil a good night's sleep. Bathroom again spotless, fluffy towels and enough toiletries for a night stay if you hadn't packed your own. The view from our bedroom window of the sea was a delight. Breakfast was well cooked and so much to choose from, enjoyed by both of us. Staff we found to be very friendly and helpful. We did find bar prices for drinks a little expensive.....but I suppose that could be due to the area. Only fault I could find was the disabled parking, there are only 2 parking bays for disabled people. It's not so much as being close to the hotel but the space I need to get out of the car....I have to throw the car door wide open......Overall had a good stay and hope my brother and sister in law will treat us again....

The location is exceptional. Right on the beach and the parking is ample for a place where that can be challenging. It’s not great value. Drinks are premium priced and the room rates high for the quality: the beds are fine, there are tea and coffee facilities but my (more basic) room was as hot as hades all night. No a/c, the windows didn’t open far and the fan (requested) didn’t help much. I understand some rooms have a/c and / or balconies , and if this is important to you in the hotter days you should do your best to get one as otherwise it’s too hot to sleep well. Hopefully these other rooms are a bit more modern as mine also needed a refresh (unless polystyrene ceiling tiles are coming back). Staff are well meaning but there’s a lot of standing around chatting to each other.

I've got a photo of my family and I only a family holiday here in 1999. So when my partner decided to take me to bournemouth for the weekend, I just had to pop in here! We arrived on the Sunday afternoon, parked up and were rudely told by the receptionist we couldn't park outside as we weren't staying the night - despite the numberplate option on the car booking system saying 'bar & restaurant guests'. She informed us there was a huge sign out the front informing guests of this policy (there wasn't....!). So we got in the car and managed to find some other parking. We returned after about 20 minutes, only to find about 10 spaces available in the car park. I understand the parking in the sandbanks is tricky, but there was no need to be so rude. Regardless of this lady, we decided to eat in the bar. I had the same thing I had back in 1999 - a prawn sandwich with chips. My partner had a pizza, freshly made. The food took a while, but we were visiting in the middle of a heatwave - so this was to be expected. All the food was lovely. And the condiments were branded (Heinz). They also had a good selection of drinks - which could have been a bit colder! What we failed to understand is why haven't the owners of the hotel pumped some money into the outside area. It's an absolute gem of an area - yet the place is really worn down. The chairs had bird poo on and it just all felt really broken. The place has so much potential - I hope to see improvements on our next visit.

Lovely location, clean beach, nice views, wasn't over crowded I went on a weekday. By evening the crowds had cleared off so I had a lovely time on the beach. The staff are friendly and helpful. I took the economy rooms. I must say besides not having air conditioning the rooms were comfortable and face the harbour with lovely sun set views. You can ask for additional fans and with windows open it was comfortable. I used the pool and sauna too. The pool is an indoor one. Not very big. But there was no one else there so it was fine. They had pool towels. They don't provide beach towels, but I asked for extra bath towels from the hotel which they provided. If you have rooms on the top 3rd floor then know that the lift goes up to 2 and then there's a short flight of stairs to the 3rd floor. The sunrise was lovely from the beach. The sea looked inviting and some people were up at 5a.m swimming and exercising. The breakfast is average If you ask for anything additional that is not on the buffet eg scrambled eggs or veg sausages , it takes long to come. They could improve on the breakfast. I didn't try any of thier restaurants. Overall great place. Would go again.

Great setting. Had pizza on terrace bar when we arrived whilst waiting for room to be ready and they were delicious. Room large and airy, sadly bed uncomfortable and furniture dated. Staff all friendly. Breakfast had a great choice and could order different eggs, delicious.

I've visited every summer the past 3 years and loved it. I know some rooms are dated but book the superior rooms and you will not be disappointed! Lovely location, patio for drinks, friendly staff and our favourite place to stay. Can also use facilities in the other FJB hotels which is great. Would recommend to all!
