This “boutique” hotel was NOT inexpensive. The front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. Unfortunately the building itself lacked everything needed for a comfortable stay. The room was so dark it was impossible to read. There was no room for two people to place toiletries in the bathroom. There was no closet or dresser, so if one is staying for more than one night it would be difficult to store clothing. There were exactly two hooks on the wall and four hangers! Worst of all….. the mattress was so uncomfortably soft that my husband slept sitting up on a hard chair. Perhaps some would find this hotel charming, ……not us.

From reception to checkout, we had a wonderful experience. Loved the vintage elevator! The room was quiet, clean and comfortable and the hotel staff were delightful. Parking was simple in the lot next door and everything was close by and easily walkable.

Neptune is absolutely an absolutely perfect place to feel swept away--comfortable, clean, and most of all FUN!

Rooms design and finish is cool and it is clean. Staff are nice and chill people. And they were very kind to let me re-schedule my stay due a family emergency and missing my initial stay time.

Tldr; if you’re looking for a hotel on the cheaper side, this could work, but don’t be fooled by the “4 star hotel” label because it is quite lacking on almost all fronts. The room was NOT clean — the floors were sticky, furniture was dusty and grimy (sanitizing wipes turned dark from the dirt), a hair in the bathroom, overall it felt very unsanitary and like the room has never really been cleaned. And they did not offer slippers or really any other room amenities except for the bare minimum ones. It felt like the room was falling apart as well — shower faucet was leaky, the toilet paper holder fell off the wall multiple times, and the bed frame was creaky and unstable. One of the worst parts was the sink — throughout the night, the sink kept making a continuous high-pitched humming noise that woke us up multiple times, forcing us to get up and fiddle with the knobs (we think it was the hot water tank?). And the sink is not in the bathroom but in the bedroom, so it was quite loud. There were various other strange noises throughout the night. Oh and the elevator…beware, it is one of those old-fashioned ones that has a sliding gate that is very difficult to operate. The gate does not open automatically nor does it stay open so you have to push it open each time, and it closes SO fast it closed on me and I was injured. Also your fingers can easily get stuck in the metal gate, which also happened. It felt like a trap. We ended up taking the stairs for the rest of the trip. The staff was overall friendly, and the speakeasy in the back of the hotel was nice. But otherwise, this was an unpleasant experience, most of all because we were deceived by pictures and descriptions online, misled to believe this would be a 4 star hotel experience, when in reality it was nothing close to that.

The Neptune Hotel (formerly the Dean) in downtown Providence is small but very comfortable. We stayed on the fifth floor, which requires climbing stairs, but all other rooms are accessible. Nice first floor lounge with astonishing collection of magazines as well as daily newspapers. Good access to downtown, and not far from the universities.

We were looking for a hotel a short distance from Gillette Stadium. The Dean is about 35 minutes away. It’s located in a very walkable area near Roger Williams University, RISD, Brown, and Johnson & Wales. The people were friendly and helpful especially Dylan. It’s a very old property. The “lift” requires muscle to get the gate open. It’s only large enough for 2 people and only goes to the fourth floor. We were room 502 so we had to lug our bags up another flight of stairs. The room was spacious with a king bed on one side and sitting area with TV on the other. The TV was difficult to watch from bed. The air conditioner combo heater was very loud. In fact, when it came on, it sounded like someone was trying to break into the room. The bathroom was small. The shower was so small that I felt like I was in a coffin with the black tile and shower curtain. The pressure was good in the shower with a waterfall shower head. I had no room to raise my arms to wash my hair. The products provided in the bathroom- hand soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were all good. There’s a pay parking lot next to the hotel.

Cool downtown boutique hotel. Easy walk to Little Italy, RISD, and interesting downtown shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Chill bar with excellent cocktails within the property. Great room service and high quality amenities. They take good care of you. That was my 2nd stay there and is my go to hotel when I’m visiting Providence.
