We got picked up spot on time at 5.50 am from the Barcelo hotel in San Jose (15th July). Juan Miguel introduced himself to us and was our guide for the next 2 days. He was absolutely brilliant. He took care of our group to the smallest details, informed us what our room number would be and the key on the door, so no check in. The exciting thing is the road stops well away from the hotel, so a beautiful one-hour boat ride is needed to reach the hotel. The hotel is situated in an idyllic place between the canal and the Caribbean Sea. The gardens are magnificent, full of tropical flowers and trees. Lots of birds come and visit, as well as a gorgeous iguana, frogs... The rooms are very well appointed but very hot (no air con). The restaurant is open to the canal, bringing a bit of air. During our 2 nights stay we went to the village by boat, visited the rain forest from the canal, had a walk with a guide showing us what was around us and finally a tour of the garden. Juan Miguel was so knowledgeable about the fauna and flora. It was such a pleasure to discover Costa Rica nature in simple terms. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly. Juan Miguel took us back to a place where we had breakfast on the way up. This time it was lunch. He handed us over to the driver taking us to La Fortuna, Arenal. We really enjoyed our short stay in this hotel.

Malgré trois jours de pluie, l’expérience était incroyable ! Un très bel hôtel avec un personnel très accueillant. Deux belles piscines et des jardins, très bien entretenu et un accès direct à la plage. La nourriture était très bonne est très variées durant les trois jours. Les chambre simples mais pratique et confortable! Coussin un peu trop gros à mon goût, mais ça c’est personnel. L’expérience de voir une tortue, pondre, ses œufs sur la plage est juste inoubliable.

We hebben met ons gezin hier een heel leuk verblijf gehad. Om te beginnen is de accomodatie zeer mooi gelegen naast de rivier. Vanuit de bar, de receptie en het restaurant heb je daar een mooi zicht op. De kamers zijn verdeeld over de mooi onderhouden tuin, en liggen in 'clusters' bij elkaar. Dat geeft een leuk lodge gevoel. De kamers zelf zijn correct onderhouden en proper. De bedden liggen zeer goed, alles in de badkamer functioneert (voldoende water en warm water, niet altijd een evidentie in Costa Rica). De kamers zelf zijn wel gehorig. Als er iets gezegd werd bij de buren, konden we het gesprek makkelijk volgen. Dat geeft een beetje een camping-gevoel op het gebied van privacy. Wij hadden vriendelijke, stille buren, dus hebben hier weinig last van gehad. Om evidente redenen (er zijn geen ramen, ook niet nodig want je zou die door de warmte niet kunnen sluiten) is er geen airco (toch een uitdaging in juli omwille van de combinatie temperatuur en luchtvochtigheid), maar zijn er ventilatoren aan het plafond bevestigd. Die van ons werkte niet naar behoren. Bij melding aan de receptie werd meteen vervanging voorzien. De zwembaden zijn goed onderhouden, en het is zalig vertoeven daar. Het restaurant serveert goed eten: goede kwaliteit, voldoende keuze, vlot aangevuld. Als toerist kom je toe aan de lodge, en je merkt dat dergelijk verblijf ingesteld is op alle activiteiten aanbieden in en rond Torteguero, op de korte tijdspanne waarbinnen je verblijft. Dat is logisch, dat is ook waarvoor je komt. Misschien dat dat bij sommige bezoekers wat te 'toeristisch' overkomt. Wij vonden het handig en efficiënt georganiseerd: je wordt verwelkomt en krijgt kort een uitleg van wat allemaal voorzien is van uitstappen en wat nog mogelijk is, dat alles volgens een gekende planning. Dat zorgt voor duidelijkheid en is organisatorisch voor iedereen wel makkelijk. Op geen enkel moment kregen we het gevoel dat men zich opdrong om uitstappen te verkopen. Wij hebben een tof verblijf gehad, met complimenten aan de personeelsleden die het onderhoud van de mooie, grote tuin en de zwembaden doen.

Tout simplement magnifique,aller au Costa Rica et ne pas visiter la réserve de Tortuguero est un péché,nous avons séjourné au Tortuguero lodge , expérience exceptionnelle au milieu de la nature, uniquement accessible en barque rapide,avec un trajet de plus d'une heure ,la visite de la réserve se fait également sur l'eau,il ne faut pas avoir peur d'être mouillé,au retour de la visite nous avions 5 cm d'eau au fond de la barque,mais que voulez vous on est dans la forêt tropicale,ou il pleut le plus souvent. La visite du village de Tortuguero est un incontournable, uniquement approvisionné par barque et très typique. A refaire.

Set between the canal and the ocean, this hotel is only accessible by boat. It is also in the rain forest so humidity is very high. The rooms are in blocks around very nice gardens with wildlife all around. There are a couple of pools set in the gardens with towels provided. It is a very short walk to the beach but do not go into the sea and there is the chance of crocodiles and sting rays, we were advised to avoid the sea but to enjoy the beach. The rooms are clean and comfortable and there is mosquito netting up at all the windows. The rooms are reasonably basic, but we are in the rain forest - so don't expect air conditioning in the rooms. There is a big fan. The restaurant was very good and all our meals were a good variety. Drinks are a little expensive, but that is the case in most of Costa Rica. The tours from the hotel are amazing. The staff were very friendly and welcoming - we would recommend this hotel.

On arrival, we were slightly surprised at how large the lodge was with 120 rooms. However, the beautifully landscaped gardens and two swimming pools, easily absorbed lots of people as did the large thatched restaurant. The buffet meals were both delicious and plentiful and the staff just wonderful. A tour to Tortuguero Village and a morning safari, both which were included in our package, were brilliantly slick and informative. Our guide, Marco Vinichi, was superb with his knowledge of the wildlife, his care of the group and general kindness. However, it was Jader our boat captain, who made our wildlife safari an epiphany with his extraordinary vision - he spotted a huge variety of birds and amphibians from up to 10 metres away! We were lucky to see a turtle nesting at midnight. A brilliant 2 night trip - really worth it in a beautiful river and beach setting. Thank you Laguna Lodge!

Tortuguero is a must on a trip to Costa Rica. The place is alive with animal sounds, so interesting and beautiful to navigate through the waterways, and lots of wildlife. Laguna Lodge is very comfortable, in the middle of the forest and right next to the sea. Lots of birds! The food was amazing, abundant and tasty. Friendly and good service. Clean and comfortable rooms. Fernando, our guide for some of the excursions, is excellent - so knowledgeable and so much respect for nature.

Accessibile solo in barca, in una posizione favolosa a pochi metri dal mare e dal canale che porta al parco Tortuguero. Lodge con camere spartane ma immersi in un giardino favoloso. La cucina è molto basica e a buffet. Escursioni in barca al parco con un infinità di uccelli e animali. Questi sono anche nei dintorni del lodge e della spiaggia.
