Surprisingly, this store has a history of more than 300 years
Very attractive to the silver-haired people from all over the world
Stayed for 3 nights and got along well with the grandparents.
The price is right and it’s a great experience

Wij hebben hier heel lekker gegeten en voelde ons zeer welkom. Het personeel was ook heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Mijn vrouw was jarig en kreeg een klein cadeautje van het hotel een flesje gin (home make). Het was allemaal perfect. 👍👍👍👍👍

I got a good rate for a superior single and the room was fine on the quiet side of the hotel. I had dinner in Reid's and that was a not so fine experience on the Sunday night. The man behind the bar noticed the table was dirty and said he would come across and clean it but he didn't. Cutlery was placed on the table. I thought he would have remembered what he said but not so. The fish is available in a standard or half. I ordered the standard. When it arrived I could not believe this was standard. It had the appearance of half or small. The batter was pale and it was unappealing and the fish was poor. The chips were good so it's a shame. The man behind the bar was then replaced by another man who appeared from reception. I settled the bill with him. He was adamant that I had been served a standard fish and his words were a half fish is only slightly smaller which doesn't sound like half to me. The attitude was poor as well. I felt ripped off. I have always stayed here years ago when I was a regular visitor in business to Perth. I am now looking at the Royal George.

Cleaning was not perfect. A lot of visible crud round the carpet edges and a great deal of fluff attached to the wall behind the bathroom mirror. Months’ worth of the stuff at the very least. Gappy curtains which had fallen off their hooks in places (which I fixed by balancing on a chair and re-attaching). Not ideal considering the bright floodlights in the car park right outside. Being an old building there were quite a few squeaky floorboards in the room above which were a slight irritation. And the tiniest shower cubicle I’ve ever seen. Physically v little room to bend to pick bottles of toiletries off the shower tray as there were no shelves/baskets in the shower to store such things. This in a superior room for £120 per night for 1 person. No inquiry upon checkout as to the quality of my stay. No eye contact either, come to think of it. Plus side: good location, characterful.

If you are travelling with your dogs we would thoroughly recommend staying at the Salutation. We only had a one night stay to break the journey to Orkney but the staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful to ensure our stay was memorable for both human and canine members of the family 🙏

Room very comfortable/traditional/spotless spacious, well equipped with table/chairs, dressing table - extremely functional-well stocked hospitality tray-great location, lovely bar area - breakfast was excellent - loved the porridge - will certainly go back...

An excellent hotel, well situated. The staff were very helpful. Be aware of the third floor stairs as the door opens out onto the stairs, which is quite dangerous particularly if you have a suitcase in your hand. There are lifts though. The food is fresh and delicious
