This review is based on my one personal experience of Costes. My husband and many friends love the place. We entered to see the gaggle of thin young people in short tight black outfits (at least 5 of them) at the desk but no direction to the restaurant. We were directed to the table to buy candles but after some insisting were shown to where our friends were having lunch. The friends stay at Costes FREQUENTLY and know it well. They advised us we could not eat on the terrace as that is for in-house guests only - I don't have a problem with that, if I was staying there I would want that privilege. We were at the back of the restaurant, let's say there were about 12-15 tables, of which we were a group of 5-7 over a few hours, and no more than 2 other tables at any time were occupied. We spent many hundreds of euros in the first 2 hours on drinks/snacks (and settled the bill with a generous tip), then some departed and some other friends arrived. No one cleared our table at any time in the two hours despite new drinks arriving. No possibility of 'un carafe d'eau'. After drinks arrived for our second group of guests, we moved all the empty glasses, bottles and snack plates to a nearby empty table. This finally achieved the attention of the rude waitress (no photo, she had pulled back dark hair, shorts and cowboy boots) who told us off for doing so! We politely but firmly replied that she had been there for 2 hours serving and not once cleaned our table in any way. Thereafter we were ignored, including by the two male waiters. I'll include the photo so you can see how busy it was(n't). Some of our family did then stay there (and report a great time) - all I can say is they are young, stupid, beautiful, have too much money and not enough discernment. nb. To the management - look at how often I give a bad review.

I arrived at the hotel ready to check-in but was waiting for my friend to arrive before checking-in. I thought I would visit the bar while I wait only be to told by a very rude and aggressive lady at the front desk that the bar was full and I must leave. Before i could explain that I was just waiting for my friend to arrive so that we could check in to the hotel I was told to leave. We did leave and moved to another hotel. I would advise everyone to avoid this hotel as it does not value their guests

I have been going to Costes bar for over 20 years - including the week before - and have never had any issue. But arriving on a Monday night at midnight, the hostess said the bar was full, “C’est complet.” I was perfectly dressed for the bar and speak French well because I live here half of the year. I have visited the most exclusive clubs and hotels around the world with never a question. I checked the bar and it was virtually empty except for a group of poorly dressed Americans. Even though I knew it was absurd, I said I would wait and the hostess pointed to a seating area. At that point, I asked for the manager. Waiting for the manager to arrive, my friend - also well dressed - ambled into the adjacent empty restaurant. The hostess barked, “I told you to wait here!” pointing to the seating area. At that point, the manager arrived and showed us to the bar with no hesitation. I am a sophisticated, experienced world traveler. I have stayed at virtually every great hotel in Paris and frequented the best clubs around the world. My home was in Architectural Digest. I have been featured in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. I get in wherever I want to go - from Monaco to St. Moritz to New York. Never before has this situation happened to me. It’s unspeakably rude. This isn’t elitist; it’s absurd.

We have stayed at Hotel Coates before but it has become even worse value for money and a victim of believing its own publicity. Pretentious, arrogant and believes it is something special but the world and the hotel market has moved on Ludicrously expensive tiny rooms with cramped facilities and yet they start at an eye-watering €600 per night for the small rooms and well over €1,000 for anything bigger. Breakfast is nice but at €40 per person for the basic continental it should be. You will be lucky to have it arrive altogether and this morning’s pantomime service ended up with them shouting at each other and an apology from one staff member who was rude to my wife for no reason. It was sexy once and cool once and now, it is just over-rated, full of staff who don’t care and run for the benefit of the owner or the staff it seems but certainly never for the customer. Very very disappointing.

I would never go here, the only experience you will have is a RACIST experience. When we were there 1 had my hijab on because I came straight from the mosque. And we left because the same blond girl asked me to REMOVE my hijab if I wanted to eat there!!!! FIRE HER!

Tavsiye ederim.
