Good hotel right opposite Paignton Pier and the sea so able to watch sunrise and sunset from the room. We were upgraded from the Ibis next door as they didn't have full capacity. We had an excellent deal from the Ibis which included breakfast and money towards dinner and this was transferred across. Our room was lovely, clean and had a large comfortable bed. However I agree with others comments about the shower soaking a large area of floor. They explained about the parking charge when we booked so I don't know why some are moaning. We didn't use our car over our 3 night stay as we walked along the coast to Torquay one way and Brixham the other way. We were served on all 3 evenings by Alex. Alex is an asset to the Mercure and performed all aspects of his job well. Other staff were also friendly and helpful. I haven't given 5* because of breakfast. Silly that a brand new hotel doesn't have hotplates for potato wedges and fried eggs and they have to be ordered separately. Although plenty on the buffet some wasn't quite as high quality such as the bread and croissants. Dinner quality was much better. For example Brixham scallops. Would we stay again yes because of the deal we had.

Visited your hotel with family 30th July went to the bar for drinks one person serving I stood there 15 minutes waiting the girl behind the bar was doing her best but kept pouring all these spirits which I presume were for guests very poor choice of draught beers and lagers no soft drinks on draught which is crazy sat outside messy tables drinks spilt on two of them nobody cleaning tables or clearing glasses also the table we were sat at was sticky and had salt on it there don't seem to be any attention to detail there was a couple of staff just standing there doing nothing very disappointing experience

Visited the hotel for an evening meal to celebrate my wife's birthday on 29th July 2025. The restaurant looks good, and we are seated promptly. People came after us were given water, and a drinks order was taken whilst we waited. Eventually, took drinks and food orders. The food arrived and was given to the wring people who, for some reason, accepted it despite it wasn't what they ordered. The server realised her mistake and quickly gave us the food. Fortunately, before the other table had time to touch it. Drinks arrived a few minutes later. Food ordered by my wife ordered came incomplete the sauce. They don't provide any sauces for steak and the chips were supposed to be triple cooked but were soggy and like warm. There was no salt and pepper on the table, and we had to ask and eventually had to go and get it ourselves.. Overall, I wouldn't give them a 1 star. For what should've been a nice meal and a celebration, we were in and out in less than 40 minutes. Appaling really, especially when we had told them it was my wife's birthday. Oh, they knocked off a few Β£'s off the bill, but no apologies.

Just back home from a 5 night stay at this lovely hotel. After reading a few negative reviews we were a little apprehensive but this did not turn out to be the case. Friendly staff who worked very hard to ensure the place was kept clean. Breakfast was of a good quality and the restaurant and hotel frontage is very nice. Payed the extra for a privilege room that was worth it with lovely bay views. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

During our stay there was also around 100 coach holidayers. Not normally a problem, but when they all return from their day trip, due to there being a lack of staff, it causes problems. Couldn't get any drinks for ages. When I finally managed to order, couldn't get the drinks I wanted. We gave up and went to the restaurant opposite. Breakfast was average. Anemic bacon, wet scrambled egg, hard cooked tomatoes and bucket loads of beans. There were other cooked items available on request like hash brown, because they're so difficult to keep warm (?!?) and different cooked egg, which I understand. Don't expect eggs benedict or a quality poached egg though! The next day we had breakfast opposite. Slightly more expensive, but quality was very high. As a gold member I tried to get a sea view room, but no luck, so I tried for an upgraded room but couldn't get that either. On our last day we asked for a late checkout, as we weren't travelling till later in the day - but couldn't get that either! Room quality was high, aircon worked well, Accor menu system TV, good shower but no mini bar and a broken fridge (which I didn't complain about). The visit could've been amazing, but I guess the decision to take the various coach trips cause it to be a hotel I won't visit again.
