Leonardo Royal Hotel Oxford

I booked this hotel for a weekend get away foe me and my partner. It was an early birthday treat, i advised the hotel this upon booking and they were fantastic enough to put a banner up and left a few little goodies for her which was amazing, very nice touch. The hotel staff were friendly, polite and courteous. Would definitely look at booking again in the future if we are down that way again.
Conifers Guest House

I required somewhere to stay that would be local to an early appointment that i had on Monday 13th November. Having searched local B&B's etc and checked out a number of reviews The Conifers Guest House appeared to fit the bill. The booking was through *********** and once confirmed i was also advised that my room on the day had been upgraded. The room was ground floor to rear of the main property namely Number 10. Unfortunately the room central heating did not work and hot water took an age to come through. The room upgrade was in fact what i would call a family room with a single and double bed plus a kitchenette so all in all large enough for a single person stay. The only heating i could find was that of a small oil filled radiator and took some hours to warm the room up. Unfortunately the toilet and shower cubicle room was very cold. The room overall requires updating at best but as a single man staying just one night it was just about tolerable. If this was a free upgrade it leaves me wondering what was i upgraded from ???
Malmaison Oxford

On a recent visit to Oxford I decided to stay in one of the prison cells at the Malmaison Oxford which was a former prison. It was a great decision as the rooms were indeed cells and still have the steel doors and brick walls to prove it. Everything else is completely modern with a large bathroom and nice working area. The location in what is actually part of Oxford Castle is within easy walking distance of most of Oxford's main attractions including the Ashmolean Museum, Bodleian Library and the principal colleges as well as the Westgate Mall. The hotel has a lot of nice modern art, much of it with a prison motif, albeit tongue-in-cheek. The staff is young and friendly and the clientele is quite mixed. I saw a Ford Focus parked beside a Ferrari. The dining room and bar are quite small at first glance until you realize there are many side rooms into what were once cells. The full English breakfast was great, but for dinner we went to some of the nearby pubs and the small Italian restaurant Prezzo which literally right next door. My only complaint was that the internet in the rooms is spotty, no doubt because of the thick walls and steel doors. But it works fine everywhere else. This is a luxury hotel, but the prices were definitely quite reasonable for the experience offered.
The Osney Arms Guest House

I am rating this five stars because of the price point. Oxford is a very expensive city, and I was able to stay five nights on quite a restricted business budget in July. My room was clean and the location is near to Oxford Station. There are some quibbles: i) The room had no desk or sofa even though it was a good size. This was fine because I was travelling alone, but it meant that I had to work on the bed. ii) There is no staffed reception. You get texted a code to the back door before you arrive. After that, you pick up keys to your room and front door from the dining room table. I did not get this text (I was booked in through work) but there were telephone numbers on the front door to ring. It all works fine, but the feeling of never meeting a staff member (and no-one being in charge) is a little bit odd. iii) Breakfast is basic. It is served on a single large table in buffet style and everyone sits around it. This was a bit OTT for a misanthrope like me. iv) I think some of the rooms are better than others. There are some near the front door which are probably a little bit on the noisy side. v) There is no air con, although there are fans. Again, this is normal for the price point. I do recommend it though. It is good value, clean, and my room was nice.
St Margaret's Hotel

Drive directly from London Airport to the hotel. The hotel is located in a residential area. The appearance is a submit-detached house. When we arrived, there was a large truck of renovation garbage at the doorway of the yard, which looked a bit messy. Entering the room was still very tidy. It should have just been renovated and looked relatively new and clean. The house is of course an old house with a certain history. The heating and sockets are a bit old. The sockets are arranged near the baseboards of the house, which makes charging awkward. Now everyone has so many electronic devices, it is recommended that the store provide more charging sockets. We booked a family room. The room is large enough. On the ground floor, there is a floor-to-ceiling window leading to the back yard. In summer, there should be a small inner yard with a table for leisure, but we arrived in winter and the yard was not decorated. Breakfast was arranged in a small restaurant in the sun room. The food is relatively rich and the environment is warm. You can communicate with other travelers. The manager and waiter are also very enthusiastic and can do their best to help the guests. The transportation is not bad. We basically walk to the central area, which takes about 20 to 25 minutes. The advantage is that you don’t have to find a place to park, and you can also see the small colleges on both sides along the way. There are not many places to eat around, but there is a small bar about 15 minutes' walk away, which has 1 Michelin star. It is a little expensive, but the food is delicious and the atmosphere is good. Students in the school are discussing business plans, which is a very university atmosphere. You can park on the roadside in front of the hotel, which is convenient. The manager let us park in the small parking lot of the hotel, which makes us feel at home. The small hotel is free and warm, and you can enter and exit with a password at night. Overall, I am quite satisfied. The next two pictures are of the small bar, and the last picture is Zixia on the road at dusk.
Royal Oxford Hotel

This hotel is in a great location, close to the train and bus stations. The check-in people were very friendly and let us leave our suitcases when we arrived before check-in time. They gave us a helpful detailed map of the major sights to see. When we returned to check in, they had already put our suitcases in our room upstairs. Our room was quiet and clean and came with a fan. The staff also let us store a sandwich in their refrigerator. Overall, a great stay for a reasonable price. I would definitely stay there again.
