very nice boutique hotel with a good bar and restaurant below. The room nice, clean, minimalist but good furniture and decent shower. Only one complaint - if you are not a fan of capsule coffee (and I am definitely not) and you just want a cup of tea, it's a pain to have to google the coffee machine to work out how to use it when just a simple kettle would have been fine. Just 4 for the location because of the chaos at the Botley road bridge which is going on till this time next year at least! Lovely breakfast menu with good service.

We visited Porterhouse having not been here for around twenty years! We booked for 2pm and were the only people in the restaurant. Despite this, we appreciated the decor and general ambience of the place and were served by very pleasant waiting staff - Lily was just lovely and not phased by our liking for Negronis! The steak we had was brilliantly cooked and beautifully seasoned. My only minor gripe was that the plates were cold but forgivable as the steak was delicious! Cocktails were really good and reasonable for Oxford in terms of price. We had a really lovely time and were not pressured to leave. The atmosphere was very friendly and we would certainly come back again.

This boutique hotel is nicely situated within walking distance of the train station and all that Oxford has to offer. The staff were friendly, especially the ladies who took care of the rooms, and Chris, who kindly carried our luggage up the steep staircase. The bed was comfy, the room spacious, and overall, the location was quiet. Water, tea, coffee and fruit were available 24/7, and breakfast was provided in the attractive dining area. A couple of suggestions: install a hook or coat rack, so guests can hang their coats or towels in the rooms; maybe remove a piece of artwork to better utilize wall space. We stayed in room 4, which was directly above the meat smoker/kitchen exhaust unit, which hummed all night long. Not a problem if you like consistent noise. There was a fan provided in the room, which we left on all night to mask the noise from the unit. Unfortunately, the smoke from the unit also rose into the room, so we kept the windows closed if the smoker was in action. When the unit was off, it was blissfully quiet. Maybe consider upgrading/replacing the windows in that room - a modern window fixture would muffle the sound. Breakfast was adequate but somewhat repetitive. Perhaps give guests the option to mix and match the breakfast items provided, ie sausage and toast versus a full plate of food. Overall, we had a nice stay at the hotel and the suggestions above are provided to enhance the stay for future guests.

Though not luxurious, our room 4 at the back of the top floor was great for us: comfortable, clean, nicely decorated and quiet. The restaurant part was more a charming steakhouse than a pub. Breakfast was top notch with one meaty option including steak. Dinner there too a great experience, though not inexpensive. The option for just a pint before closing was enjoyable. Location was also good for us: close but not too close to the crazy of Oxford, in a walkable residential area with pub and eating options downstairs and right nearby. All staff encountered were pleasant and effective.

Updated room with original charm. The room had a lot of space and easily accommodated 2 of us. The only concern was that it was a little warm at night, but the windows opened and allowed for the breeze to come through. The stairs are narrow and a little steep. Very thankful for the kind employee who took our overweight luggage to the top floor.

Lovely place, good size rooms, friendly staff and Steak for breakfast! Also easy walk from City Centre. Will stay again when I'm next in Oxford, nothing to complain about, Hotel in nice location and food was excellent. Nothing else to add, but as review has to be at least 200 words I've added this bit!

Delicious steak! friendly staff and lovely wine/ cocktails set in a quiet victorian residential street! my husband and I had the sirloin steaks (highly recommend!) They also do steaks by the cut and weight! We'd say more upmarket but worth the price! They also have rooms available (we dined only) we definitely recommend porterhouse if you love your steak!!

The hotel do not provide a breakfast before 9am on Saturdays. We were 4 rooms in need of an early breakfast but we’re only given a packed breakfast with a flat cold croissant and yogurt and juice from the fridge on the landing. The coffee machine had still the sticker on it and so we needed to pour 4 coffees before being able to have one. We finally decided to opt out of the packed breakfast and left the hotel. We found the staff not helpful. The whole experience was unpleasant. We would not return to this hotel.

We stayed here for three nights and we can absolutely recommend the hotel to others. The room was nice and clean and spacious. The hotel is old and crooked but nicely renovated with a modern twist. The staff is friendly, and they helped us with and early check in when we arrived from our hike on the Thames Path. The continental breakfast is a little sparse, but the cooked breakfast was really good. It could have been nice if the orange juice had been refiled so that all guests could have a glass. It was really nice with the fresh fruit and cold water on the repose. The dinner here is good with tasty and delicious meat. It is a bit expensive to stay here, but maybe all of Oxford is?
