Amazing
BBanjierutudebalinghouThis is a hotel with a very interesting story. It is located on the hilltop of Otaru Chikko. All rooms are Japanese tatami, very large and clean. You can call the hotel to send a car to JR Otaru Chikko Station for pick-up. It is a bit troublesome to arrive at the hotel by yourself. The dinner and breakfast are very rich and are included in the room rate. For hot springs, in addition to the small hot spring pool in the room, the hotel's open-air bath faces the sea, which feels great! I will stay here again in the future.
HHahuhaheI really enjoyed stay here. I got out of the Otaru JR station and the hotel is, across the road. Room was clean and functionable. I was on 9th floor and my window view was a big bonus. There is onsen but i missed it due to lack of time. Hotel is close to canal and shops and i have to mention the Triangle Market., where i had one of my best meal - grilled halibut. Check out my window view. This is a good base to explore the famous shops and eat good seafood.
LLIM WILLIAMThe hotel is conveniently located near the Otaru Canal, with easy access to tourist attractions and amenities. The room is small, but clean and comfortable. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel provides parking, however it is charged.
AAlexism07We stayed a night and chosen grid as a base as it's well situated in the middle of Otaru.
- We checked in in the evening after a long day out. I was trying to get my family to offload the bags and check in first, hotel staff saw us and approached us at the parking lot, we thought it's impressive for staff to have noticed us and came forward to help and direct us but we were quick to jump to conclusion. Instead of assisting us, the staff ask us to put the bag back on the car so he could direct us to a parking lot which requires payment. It's okay that assumption failed, but when we are at the parking lot, the staff direct me to park in the initiate lot, but subsequently changed his mind and directed me to park at the lot beside despite the fact I have turned off the engine and gotten off the car, and there's easily another 20 lots around.
That being said, I am fine with moving, the final straw for the poor rating came when they saw my wife struggling to wheel the big bags for the family across the snow to the hotel but offered no help. I think it's ungentlemanly and unspoken off of japanese service culture.
- Rooms and onsen is impressive though, we stayed in the top level which only has three family rooms I guess and the view in the morning is good. Amenities are self serviced at level one across the check in counter. Top notch face mist and hairdryer in the room was a plus. Cleanliness was top notch as well.
- location was central to Otaru Canal and JR Otaru station.
ZZheng LiStayed at Sho Inn for 1 night in Otaru. It’s a little out of the way from the Otaru station if you do not drive, but they offer shuttle service to the Otaru Canal and Otaru station when you check out! The host Hideshi was incredibly kind, even going the extra mile to bring my neck pillow, which I had accidentally left in the accommodation after check out, to the Otaru station at my preferred time that evening. It was a gesture testament of the great hospitality of the Japanese. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you’re a solo traveller / prefer your own private space instead of going to those hostels with double deckered beds and curtains!
GGuest UserI think this youth hostel is very clean, because your bed sheets and quilt covers are on your bed and you need to arrange them yourself.
As a post-00s, I like this place very much. There are kitchen utensils, tableware, coffee and other daily necessities here; I can't find anything to eat at night, so I go to the station to buy instant noodles and come back. You don't have to worry about anything because everyone eats supper in the lobby like you; I get up in the morning and make myself a cup of hand-brewed coffee with the hotel's coffee. I stayed here for one night on my own and didn't feel strange.
What you need to pay attention to nearby is the downhill slope at the door and the nearby railway, which you must pay attention to when commuting.
SScudLimCozy Inn is superb, can easily be reached by bus or by car. Plenty of parking spaces. Room is big and clean. Close to Aeon and Daiso. Walkable to the canal if you are not driving. Check in uses machine and strictly only after 3pm, so do not come early. Overall, I highly recommend!
GGlobetrotter & HikerI had a pleasant one night stay at Hotel Sonia. The hotel's location was excellent, situated in front of the Otaru Canal and within walking distance to shopping and dining areas, as well as the train station (though snowy conditions made it a bit tricky). While the hotel lobby looked modern, the room interior felt outdated. Note that late check-out comes with a 2000 JPY per hour fee, so plan accordingly. Overall, it was a decent one-night stay.
LluxbabyYou can stay cheaply during the peak season in Hokkaido.
Parking is free, which is especially good for those traveling by rental car.
You can think of the interior as a caravan without a kitchen.
It's a bit cold on winter nights.
However, if you keep the heater on, it's fine.
GGuest UserI stayed with five friends. The room was not particularly large, but it had a kitchen and a washing machine, so it felt like we were sharing a room. I thought it was a strange arrangement to have the toilet in the bathroom. There is a large torii gate in front of the hotel, so you have to go around it to get to the parking lot. The signs may be a little hard to understand. Check-in is unmanned and you can check in by yourself using a tablet, but if you have trouble finding your way, they will help you by calling.
