It is a fascinating hotel. Friendly staff, superb restaurant and absolutely out of the ordinary interior design. We will return.

I stayed with my wife, daughter and son-in-law in two rooms at this surprising hotel in October, during the Folio literary festival. The hotel would have been a convent. The current decoration with thousands of books is unique and comfortable. The rooms and bathrooms are great. Cleanliness and friendliness of staff 5 stars. Very good location next to the walls, out of the crowd, but a 7-minute walking distance from the center. The restaurant is very worth it, with excellent cuisine. I ate a very delicious braised fish. One of the desserts won first prize in a recent sweets competition. The hotel is managed directly by the owner's daughter, which gives guests special attention and care. We will certainly return and even offer some books that we have at home for your collection 😆

This room which had just been renovated was perfect. We had a large bedroom as well as a living room suite. The water pressure was great in the shower, which was very refreshing. Large spacious tub or a nice bath. The bed was very comfortable with brand new sheets and pillows. Breakfast was delicious and generous. Altogether a lovely stay.

We stayed a night here on a cycle trip to visit the lovey town of Obidos which is well worth a visit. The Hotel is wall to wall books with lots of quirky features and a nice little garden. Rooms for our group were quite varied , we had a nice big room withan internal terrace but some were quite small. Breakfast was so very good with lots of choice and nice healthy stuff as well indulgent treats. Dinner was a little disappointing with some of the dishes we had but service was excellent.

I don't think I've ever panned an establishment before. This is the exception. Shabby chic without the chic. Dining room was lovely and dinner was fine. The rooms, especially the bathroom was awful. Mould, most of the bath sealant missing. Everywhere scuffed and dirty. The carpet was like something Wetherspoons had thrown out (UK readers will understand). Went on a small group tour with a well known company. Why there? I will be asking.

I’ve never had so many mixed feelings about a hotel! I love reading so when I saw this hotel is all about books, it seemed the perfect hotel for me. The staff is just lovely, and we had dinner in the restaurant which was the best meal I’ve had during our trip (order the filet mignon and thank me later). The halls are shabby with old stained carpet but you only walk past that. The room however….. I loved the books and the vibe they tried to create, but the bed was cheap and the sheets were stained. The bathroom was sooo old, it needs to be remodeled right away. I’ve seen pictures online and think some rooms are renovated a bit and some aren’t and we just weren’t lucky. We only spent one night there so I just stayed up very late so I didn’t have to sleep in the bed too much and skipped the shower. The hotel has a lot of potential, the restaurant is fantastic and the staff is great, they should renovate the rooms so you don’t pay a 4-star price for a 2-star bedroom. Again I want to make it very clear the staff is excellent and the food amazing!

My husband and I were cycling from one adorable town to the next along the Atlantic coast in Portugal, and I could have kissed the ground when I arrived at this charming hotel. Over 90,000 books line every wall, the staff at reception were so kind and helpful and welcoming. The restaurant is just beautiful and delicious, and I couldn’t believe the prices! Breakfast was the best one I had on our entire trip, we were served in the main kitchen area and everything was just so beautiful and delicious!
