Paid close to $500 for a 5 night stay that already cost me over $1,000 for the room. Almost had a physical altercation with a transient right in front the hotel by valet parking station. For yelling obscenity while walking aggressively towards my wife. The room we first checked into light didn’t work properly ( flickering) the second room had a tiny refrigerator that could only hold about 2 16oz water bottles. My wife discovered yellow stains on the toilet seat. Definitely overpriced for my experience.

Great hotel, luxury-wise. The only reason I'm giving this rating is the obscene (and undisclosed until you check in) parking and "resort" fees. If you get there early enough in the day, sure, you can look around nearby for self-park, but get in late enough and you don't feel entirely comfortable doing so in that area. The resort fee is just a scam as are all resort fees.

Frankly, I did not expect to find such a hip boutique hotel in Oakland. The lobby is really quite stunning, the rooms are nicely appointed, and the service is absolutely top notch. In many ways the Kissel reminds me of some of the hip Manhattan places I've stayed... I really didn't expect to find this level of "cool" in Oakland.

We were warmly greeted by Marva and Aaron during check-in. Both were friendly and made us feel welcome. Marva took the time to explain all the perks we were entitled to as Hyatt Discoverist members, while Aaron went over the details of our reservation. Since our 2-night stay was split—one night with points and the second paid out-of-pocket—we were kindly upgraded to a room with a patio. Our room and bathroom were clean and well-maintained, which made for a comfortable stay. The gym was also a nice surprise—well-sized, with decent equipment and weights. The only minor issue we encountered was the presence of some gnats in the lobby and dining area. Overall, though, the service was excellent and our stay was very enjoyable. A special thank you to Aaron for mailing out my complimentary postcard since I couldn't find a nearby mailbox. Thanks, Aaron!
