Moxy Oakland Uptown

One elevator out, apparently for months, and the other really slow. People were okay at checkout - helpful but not friendly. It was a fine stay. Right near where I needed to have meetings, so would return.

I stayed at the Moxy Oakland from May 19–21, 2025, and unfortunately, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had—both during the stay and in the weeks that followed. ROOM ISSUES & SLEEPLESS NIGHT: Upon check-in, I was placed in a room with no working A/C. I notified the front desk and was moved to a second room—also with a broken A/C unit. I was told to just sleep with a loud box fan in a room that was over 79 degrees, making it impossible to sleep. Only the third room, offered the next day, had working air conditioning. I’m a frequent traveler and a commercial pilot, and I’ve never experienced this kind of poor room maintenance at a Marriott-branded property. NO FOLLOW-UP OR RESOLUTION: I was told by front desk staff that a manager would reach out and that I would be offered a refund or Marriott Bonvoy points to compensate for the inconvenience. No one ever contacted me. When I tried to follow up, I spoke with a staff member named Elizabeth, who was dismissive, unhelpful, and unprofessional. Instead of helping resolve the issue, I was offered 30,000 points, which wouldn’t even cover one night at this same hotel. That offer felt more like a slap in the face than an apology. UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES: Nearly a month after I checked out, I noticed my credit card had been charged: Three unauthorized transactions of $100 each (totaling $300), Followed by three more $100 charge attempts, which were blocked only because I had to freeze my card. I contacted Marriott Bonvoy customer service, and even they confirmed that the hotel could not explain or verify these charges. Yet, they still occurred. I have since disputed the charges with my bank and am pursuing further steps to protect myself. SUMMARY: No functioning A/C Lack of sleep on the first night No follow-up from hotel leadership Unprofessional staff $300 in unauthorized charges with repeated attempts to charge more If I hadn’t caught the fraudulent activity, I could’ve been charged hundreds more dollars without ever being told why. I expected much better from a Marriott-branded property. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially business travelers or anyone who expects basic accountability. If you stay here, watch your credit card statements carefully.

Moxy was a great stop for a quick trip to Oakland. The hotel lobby is a great spot to meet with friends prior to going out any time of day. My bed was super comfortable and the room was plenty spacious. The elevator was really slow (and one was out of service) so I took the stairs multiple times which is fine by me. I'd definitely stay here again.
