Not brilliant to be honest, though far from the worst too. No complaints at all about the lady behind the bar who welcomed us - she was fine and did her job perfectly. But the premises seemed old and past their best. The room was a bit depressing and half below ground level, though it was clean enough and the bed was ok. The pub itself smelt of smoke, which was odd since smoking is no longer allowed in pubs, and it was a bit of a dowdy, charmless place. Subjective I know - but it felt like a hang out for regulars rather than somewhere for a visitor to enjoy. On the plus side, it’s close to the city (though at the top of a hill) and there is a spacious car park. All in all the William IV is okay for a night, but I wouldn’t want to stay longer. Sorry.

Just stayed for a lovely weekend at this pub. The room was tidy and spacious for 4 of us. Very clean and tidy too. Breakfast was very tasty and a good variety of choices! The room has everything we needed including a fridge which was very handy. 15 mins walk to Riverside with lots of restaurants and entertainment. 20 min walk to the cathedral. We will definitely be back!

The car park can be tight on space if the pub is busy. On arrival was made to feel welcome by very friendly staff. Was shown the side guest entrance, this is a bonus, as you don’t need to enter and leave via the bar. The room was clean, with just a little dust around skirting boards. The room included wardrobe, containing an iron and ironing board. Full tea and coffee making facilities. It included a coffee pod machine but disappointingly few pods. Biscuits and bottles of water were included on arrival. The view from room 4 is rather unique. The bed was rather hard but comfortable enough. The two evening meals we had, could have been better. The lasagna was overcooked and the chicken in the curry had not been dressed. (Gristly bits removed) and needed chopping smaller. Minor faults to otherwise nice meals. The breakfast was spectacular in abundance. Juice, cereal, fresh fruit, cereal bars plus unlimited tea and fresh brewed coffe to accompany the cooked breakfast which had numerous choices. The position of the William Iv is within walking distance of the city centre but as others have said is uphill when returning. As we used the car this did not bother us. Would highly recommend. For value for money and lovely friendly staff. Would definitely use again.

Difficult to choose a score for this one (the reason why I was deliberating between a 3 and 4) as there were good points and bad. The hotel is about a 10/15 minute walk (mainly uphill so not good for anybody not particularly mobile) and is located in a nice, quiet, residential area. The hotel is a little dated and in need of a refurb. My room reminded me of student accommodation and the bar area was akin to a social club. My room was clean although the coffee machine didn’t work. Breakfast was the high point and freshly cooked and tasty. I had a meal in the bar the evening of my arrival which was also nice. Overall, a very reasonably priced (£57 with breakfast) with friendly staff but a little tired in places.

Nice sized clean tidy room, lots of extras, bed was very comfy. Room had air con, which worked really well once I figured out how to reset the hand held control. En suite shower, loo and sink also nice size and clean. Shower had plenty of oomph and fully adjustable temps as well, which makes a nice change. Full cooked Breakfast was included in the price of the room and it was amazing! Fantastic value. Great for kids. Staff were very helpful and polite, nothing was too much hassle for them. Well done! Some things to think about: If there's a private party, you may not have a bar menu to choose from, so you'll need to walk to the local take away. Luckily the room I stayed in had decent sound insulation and I couldn't hear the music in the bar, which was quite loud. Unsure if 'dog friendly'. Quite a steep walk up from Norwich city centre - I'd advise a taxi for return journey as downhill always easy. Conclusion: YES, I'd be very happy to book in here again! Recommended.

Hmm, I think website is a little misleading. However, staff very friendly and happy to help. Room was clean. Good breakfast. Reasonably priced and walking distance into city centre if you're relatively mobile. Quite an uphill hike on the way back.

We decided to stay just the one night as we were in Norwich doing some shopping. Looked away from the mainstream Hotels due to price and parking costs. The William IV didn’t disappoint in any way. We were in Room 1 which is downstairs, initially we did worry about possible noise from the bar or car-park, but it was really quiet and cosy. The room had everything we could need, including a fridge ! Pub/B&B is about 20 minutes walk to the city centre, downhill all the way - just remember it’s uphill on the way back! Car parking is free and on the day we checked out we left it there all day. Breakfast is served in the bar, and includes cereal, fruit juice & a cooked option of basically whatever you fancy - all cooked fresh. Lastly but not least my, there was a lovely welcome by the young lady working on the evening we arrived, she explained we needed to know - and was there the following morning to cook the breakfast, preparing for to deal with the pub trade during the day - don’t think she must ever sit down. Would definitely stay here again if we come back to Norwich.

Excellent experience. Locals were good. Bed was excellent pity mattress didn't fit in my suitcase. Cooked breakfast in the morning was cracking and plenty off other options. Room was comfy and cozy...
