Delta Hotels Norfolk Airport

So from the outside, the hotel is promising. Fresh paint, new roof, and the location is stellar - just minutes from the airport and a very short ride to downtown Norfolk. But it is just a mask. Once you walk up to the main door and enter the lobby you notice the up-close datedness of the building and surroundings. Newer furniture and decor is just the lipstick. It is just old with no real effort to invest in modernization of infrastructure other than paint, carpet and some new wall paper. The elevator is grimy, indicator lights do not work, it is slow, and only one in the lobby for such a large property. The other one at the end of a hallway was broken and remained so throughout our stay. The hallway carpet had not seen a vacuum in recent days relying instead on the intricate pattern to hide the need. Our room was as expected with an attempt at modernization. Newer furniture, but old and grimy window, paint spatter all over the fixtures and new(er) LVT flooring, and someone invested heavily in caulk calking bright white silicone at EVERY angle in the bathroom and coffee bar area masking old flooring, fixtures, mold, and such. The dated tile floor in the bathroom had chips and cracks. Paint on the ceiling over the tub was flaking and the track closet door was off track. The one fabric covered seat had a visible stain - gross. Simply put...it was a place to sleep. Most frustrating was the unadvertised $10 per night charge for parking. Why? Clearly a money grab by the franchisee. Worse, they offer airport shuttle service (yay!) and parking for your car if you leave it for a trip, but at $20 per day. The airport parking is $12. Kinda made us go "hmmm." Staff was curt, robotic, but not unfriendly. We saw one housekeeper several times, but on their phone with a loud and distracting family FaceTime going every time we passed and in the elevator. Atmosphere at the lobby bar was dull and uninviting. Overall the hotel was a disappointment but served its purpose as a clean bed and a night's rest prior to an early morning flight. There are other choices around - recommend taking a peak at those places first.
