Killeavy Castle Estate

Just back from a relaxing time at Killeavy Castle Estate!! A beautiful hotel set in Slieve Gullion. The grounds are lovely to walk around and the farm shop has plenty of treats! The rooms were spacious and equipped with everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and plenty of pillows! We hired the electric bikes which was a great way to see around the area and also Slieve Gullion forest park. Dinner was excellent, we ate in the Bistro bar, a beautiful setting and the staff are all excellent. Again the breakfast was first class as were the staff.

Exceptional staff, ready to go that extra mile to accommodate access and dignity needs. Afternoon Tea was wonderful. Special shout out to James, Restaurant Manager. Well done everyone at Killeavy Castle Estate. We hope to return to stay over soon.

Have just returned home after having afternoon tea in Killeavy Castle Estate. What seems like going to be a disaster turned out great. Our afternoon got off to a very poor start on arrival at the estate. Whilst the drive in and the opulence of the entrance to the estate is wonderful once we approached the buildings things changed. Signage was not clear and at both the hotel and the castle entrances there were notices stating 'Private Function' set down only. As we were unclear which building we were meant to be in if it had not been for a lovely young member of staff intercepting us and taking us to where we were meant to be I doubt if we'd have found our way to the right place. The outside entrance to the hotel is underwhelming to say the least - dull and drab with small signage. Eventually we were shown into where we were to have afternoon tea. Another disappointment - low tables and too many in a small area. I expressed dissatisfaction with the table height mainly because of a temporary use of crutches following surgery. Fortunately a delightful girl named Amy took us to another area to a more suitable table. Thereafter things improved. I was so disappointed by the start had it not been for the fact that we were there to celebrate a friend's birthday I would have left right away. Our afternoon tea arrived. It was beautiful. We all thoroughly enjoyed. Without a doubt the saving grace for the afternoon was the quality of the food which was only surpassed by the wonderful staff. We were looked after by Amy & Hannah. If I was to say what the most impressive thing about this afternoon was I'd have no hesitation in saying that Killeavy Castle Estate's best asset is their staff. Every member of staff we encountered were pleasant professional and helpful.

A real gem just waiting to be discovered. I plan to be back later in the month (will bring my walking boots with me too). What a location and truly innovative restoration of an old castle and ‘fit for purpose’ boutique hotel and bistro. Easily accessed

We stayed at this hotel in December 2024 attending a function. My wife and I checked in dropped off our bags and continued to the function. The mini bar items were laid out on the table and we realised as there was a price list you had to pay for the items. We checked out the next morning and around an hour later we were contacted to say we were going to be charged £26 for items we did not take. On contacting the hotel we were told that housekeeping had said items were taken and as we’d not taken a photo of the items when we arrived we had no way off proving we didn’t take them. They said they would look into it and get back to us. I’m still waiting.!! I’ve also emailed the hotel twice and no reply. For a hotel of this standard it’s unacceptable. My advice is if you’re going to stay, take a photo off the mini bar table.

Spent two nights at Killeavy on the Black Friday deal. It was our third stay and it gets better every time we return. The room, bar/bistro and general areas of the hotel are lovely as is the peaceful setting. The Spa is limited in size so can be busy. The standout however is without doubt the friendliness and efficiently of all of the staff and I mean all, from the housekeeping staff and all through the staff we were wonderfully looked after. We look forward to our next visit.
