Overlooking Fistral Beach, this stylish Victorian hotel features a Five Bubble rated spa, surf school, approach golf course and a wonderful sea-view terrace. Awarded a 5-stay AA rating, the Headland Hotel is a 10-minute walk from Newquay center. The impressive leisure facilities include a brand new Aqua Club which includes 6 outdoor and indoor pools (open all year round). The spa includes a Cornish salt steam room, a Swedish sauna, a hot tub, and experience showers. Treatments by Elemis, Voya and OPI can be booked in the state-of-the-art ash wood paneled rooms or work out in the fully equipped Life Fitness gym. There are three restaurants, and the hotel has been awarded an AA rosette. Guests can enjoy the best of Cornish coastal produce in the restaurant RenMor. The Deck as part of the Aqua Club offers poolside drinks, and Mediterranean dining. Afternoon teas and Cornish breakfasts are available, and the bar offers cocktails and fine wines. The spacious 5-star bedrooms at The Headland have free Wi-Fi access and satellite TV. All rooms feature a cozy seating area, a work desk and a modern bathroom with fluffy robes. The hotel has a communal laundry room, where guests can access a washing machine and a tumble dryer, as well as ironing facilities. Perched on a rugged headland, this hotel is just a 20-minute walk from Newquay Railway Station. Free on-site parking is available, and Newquay Golf Club is a 5-minute walk away. The surf school also offers coasteering, standup paddleboarding and private surfing lessons. The Headland is dog-friendly and up to two dogs can stay in each bedroom per nights. Regrettably, we are not able to accommodate any other pets. Our bedroom capacities are limited to maximum of 2 people. 1 adult and 1 child (12 and under) can travel together. Ugly Butterfly by Adam Handling is also available as a dining option but is operated separately from the Headland.

On arrival you are blown away with the building. The main building is dated but in keeping with the property. As we head down to the spa, the reception from the team is flat. Unwelcoming, with little enthusiasm! Pre email communications about treatments had not been communicated. Given a print out of timings but no communication about where to go for the different bits. We figure out that our thermal experience requires trapsing across the car park in robes to a separate building. Arrive for lunch on time. After a 15 minute wait and a prompt to reception, we are finally served. Food eventually arrives and is appalling on a counts. Sweaty cheese and meats on the charcuterie board, crusty, dry clotted cream with the cream tea, cremated calamari, weak coffee. Awful food. On relaying this to the manager we are met with a terrible attitude and a response that she will check with the kitchen about times and she can assure me the food is fresh! I must add that I asked to discuss grievances after our spa but this was not an option! I had to discuss it with her there and then! On completing our treatments the manager had left. No response other than 50% off our extras which had been wrongly calculated 😫 (overcharged plus a service charge!) another awkward conversation with a new manager. Rude, no attempt to acknowledge the poor service. Incredibly awkward. I must add that two days later I visited the royal crescent spa in bath. That is an experience that you would expect for the money. Beautiful facilities, completed with impeccable service and food. The headland may have the facilities and setting however, the service and food are below par to say the least. Do not recommend. There are spas that are doing this much much better. Very disappointing. Do not book if you are hoping for a memorable experience for the right reasons!

I have amended this review after Wyns previous reply. It upset a member of staff who just made a mistake and I wouldn’t want to do that so I have amended it. We stayed for my daughter’s birthday weekend. We were looking forward to a great stay and our expectations were high. We felt we missed out on a little of some of the concierge experiences like bags to the room and a little tour of the building but it was busy so we’ll put it down to that. 95% of the staff are excellent and exactly what you’d expect from a hotel like this. The check in process was efficient, the room wasn’t ready but that’s fine, we were early. We sat in the lovely lounge and waiting area and within 30mins we were good to go. We were in room 401. When we got there at first it felt a little underwhelming, almost like we’ve been put in the attic. I’m sure there are bigger and better family rooms, but we grew to like it during the stay. It’s perfectly useable and nice. Views are amazing, love the fact the windows open and you can hear the sea at night, we didn’t close the curtains once. Underfloor heating was good and welcomed in the shower room. No real issues. Kids even made friends with a seagull who visited every evening to be hand fed biscuits. Spa was nice, children can’t go in until after 9am. Little bit inconvenient as we are early risers, but we understand, it was nice and clean and not too busy. Breakfast was good quality, good service, with fantastic views. I’m not sure why I’ve seen complaints about this. This was excellent. Take away menu from the deck was good. Pizzas were very nice. We had a minor misunderstanding when trying to get cream tea but these things happen. All in all a good weekend away. Could easily have been 5 star review. Wish trip advisor would let us do half stars as this was very much 4.5.

Nice hotel, perfect location. 95% of the staff are excellent and exactly what you’d expect from a hotel like this. It’s the 5% that left us unsure to return or not. Check in n process is efficient and super service. We were in room 401. At first it felt a little underwhelming, almost like we’ve been put in the attic. I’m sure there are bigger and better family rooms but we grew to like it during the stay. It’s perfectly useable and nice. Views are amazing, love the fact the windows open and you can hear the sea at night, we didn’t close the curtains once. Underfloor heating was good and welcomed in the shower room. No issues here, but lacked a little bit of space. Spa was nice, children can’t go in until after 9am. Little bit inconvenient as we are early risers but it was nice and clean and not too busy. Breakfast was good quality, good service, with fantastic views. Take away menu from the deck was good. Pizzas were very nice. The issue that’s put us an off returning is we came down at 1130 for cream tea as the kids were excited about trying it in such a grand setting. It’s worth pointing out there was only 2 tables occupied during this entire incident. We were told they didn’t serve it until 12 which was fine, instead of offering us the drinks menu or seeing if we wanted anything else she walked off despite us trying to order drinks. We tried to get her attention a couple of times but just got ignored. It got to 12pm and the server continued to ignore us. Another lady came in for tea and she was all offer her. Chatting, serving her, checking on her every minute but completely ignoring us. I’ll just say that she clearly looked and dressed like the setting she was in. It got to 1220pm and we just walked out. Quite upset with it all really. I told reception what had happened, they were excellent, not their fault at all. I then cancelled every booking I had for dinner for the rest of the stay. I’m not being treated like a second class citizen as there was certainly a class thing going on with the server. Just in case the server gets to read this, although we were dressed in normal holiday clothes with the kids, in a grand setting like that. I’m in the top 1% of uk tax payers. Don’t judge a book by its cover. We were booking for my wife’s birthday in October but now we’re looking at alternatives. That said, nice hotel, nice room, most of the staff excellent. Few too many dogs walking round the hotel but decent holiday for a weekend away.

We have visited every year as visitors when we visit Cornwall. We order food and drinks and enjoy the view and experience. The prices reflect the venue. We were disappointed this year as we had 2 celiacs in our party. We paid £14 for a cream tea which included 2 scones as standard. However, for gluten free version it was just one scone which we felt was a bit mean. The explanation was that you usually have to book ahead so you only get one - I'm not sure that the explanation matched the problem. Being celiac is not a life choice and the higher price on other food could surely have supplemented an extra scone for the few celiac visitors. I felt really bad for them. It would have been £28 for 2 scones and tea which, though the scone was reportedly very good and had plenty of jam and cream was a step too far. The food came at different times, which was warned on the menu but a cream tea with cold scones (mine was reheated on request) arriving at a different time to the tea did not feel like a whole experience. Fries (£6 yesterday) were in a small pot but tasted really good and were very hot. The tea was warm. Staff varied in their attitude with some being great and others dismissive. I'm hoping it was just a busy day (there was a wedding on) and not reflective of a declining service overall. Free parking if you spend £10 (which is hard not to) as long as you verify your purchase (stamped receipt at reception) and put your reg in the display as you leave. Beautifully kept building with stunning views.

We only had one night but the service was really very good and they acknowledged our 60th wedding anniversary. We had an evening meal and breakfast and we had no complaints. Would recommend and stay or use again for something special.

Comfortable room, 3 very poor breakfasts. Lack of supplies, bread, yoghurt, marmalade etc. No excuse. Dinner ok, but much better seafood restaurant very near, adjacent Fistral beach, 5 minute walk.

Wonderful stay in spite of the unseasonable rain We stayed in a cottage which was lovely and well equipped. We ate at REN Mor one night which was quite a treat, service excellent and amazing food. The summer salad and gurnard were phenomenal! The ballroom was a fantastic place to chill with a glass of wine. Their menu was small but sufficient. I highly recommend the crab roll, absolutely delicious

This stay was nothing short of perfect!! I booked a stay here for my partners 40th birthday and it did not disappoint. From start to finish the staff were great in dealing with special requests such as deep cleaning our room before arrival due to my partners fur allergy to assisting us in planning our activities during our stay. We are already arranging a return visit to enjoy it all over again, keep doing what you are doing as it’s perfect!
