This hotel is the best in New York. We stayed for three night here. The staff were warm, very approachable and helpful. Our room was perfectly prepared, nicely decorated and very clean. The hotel location makes it easy to explore New York City.
I was a little hesitant about staying here as there were a number of review that said it was dated and the staff was not very pleasant. Agree that it is a touch dated, although not so dated you feel like it is dirty and grungy. It just isn't super modern stark like everything seems to be these days. Our room was clean and well appointed, everything worked in the room, things looked like they were kept up (no chips or scratched on furniture or walls, no unraveling carpets etc.). The lighting in the bathroom did suck a bit and I would agree that you can definitely hear doors in the hallways from the inconsiderate customers that just let them slam behind them as they head out, but overall those two items were not a big deal. Staff was exceedingly nice and helpful and extremely courteous. Location is great if you want to poke around Soho, Tribeca and even Greenwich or East Village. We walked to all of them, but we are walkers to it was not a big deal. Canal street is not my favorite street, that is for sure. Very busy street with lots of vendors clogging it up and trying to sell you knockoff purses and watched. I'd avoid it if you can. It is also not very pretty/pleasant of a street. Oh, and if you are hoping to go to the rooftop deck, then you need to upgrade yourself to those floors. The rooftop is not open to everyone in the hotel, which is a shame.
So, I know New York is expensive. I get it, but I wasn't prepared for my experience in this well know brand of hotel. On check in I experienced the first 2 red flags. Firstly, I was asked when I wanted house keeping. After paying just over $400 per night I couldn't believe the question. I was then informed there was no restaurant and pastries and coffee are in the lobby to take. Perfect, no ability to get a decent breakfast. I was given 3 tiny bottles of water to take up with me, if you want more during your stay you need to pay for it. The room itself was clean and the bed was comfy, but the decor in the hallway and rooms were drab, dated and run down in desperate need of renovation. I tried to use the iron in the room and it started smoking. Thankfully I didn't set off the smoke alarm. The shower had to be run for ages to get hot water. Not great if you're rushing out on the morning. When house keeping did come the room was left clean, but they didnt replenish the milk so i had no milk for coffee in my room. Very annoying. The only good thing about the hotel was the reception staff . They were very pleasant and helpful. They responded quickly to any of my queries which was great. The bed was also comfy. So that's it, a cheap and basic experience for a ridiculous price.

I had a really lovely stay at Smyth Tribeca. I stayed there 4 nights during fashion week, and it was the perfect location to access downtown spots super fast and get around. A short walking distance from Nolita and SoHo which is very convenient. The room was super spacious with a big bed, and the staff was really attentive and friendly. I would love to stay here again for fashion week.
I love this hotel. Booking hotels really stresses me out. I always worry that it won’t be as advertised. Thank goodness I found The Frederick. A friend recommended it and I’ve now stayed there twice. I like the location. I like the hotel. I love the vibe. Easy access to a Starbucks and the subway. The neighborhood is pretty quiet at night. My most recent visit was just a quick 1 night stay but I wished I could stay longer. One of my fav things is that the room AC works very well and my room gets nice and cold…I love a cold hotel room. The bathrooms have cool map tile work in the showers. It isn’t noisy. Like I don’t hear people next door or milling about in the hallway. Mery checked me in and she was lovely. Honestly, everyone I’ve ever interacted with has been delightful. I just love the coziness of a boutique hotel.
First let me start by saying that I was contacted by the hotel for feedback following my stay. I asked via email and voicemail to have the General Manager give me a call and waited before writing this review. I asked the Director of Guest Services for follow up and still have not been contacted. Check in-We had a great experience at check with the front desk. The agent was efficient and friendly. She followed up with a phone call to the room to see that everything was ok which we appreciated. Room-The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a little small. Housekeeping-At check in we were told to call before noon if we wanted housekeeping. We did call and were told that they could only pick up trash and bring clean towels. I know this has changed since the pandemic and we were fine with this. Bar and food- We did not receive any welcome drink or champagne so after we settled in we went to the bar for a drink and something to eat. We were told that there was a private event and that they could not accommodate us. After some push back the hostess said we could sit down for one drink but must be done in 20 minutes. I understand private events are lucrative but there should always be some space for guests to relax and get a drink after a long journey. Before arriving I had called the front desk and asked to speak to a concierge about reservations. I was told that all of the reservations for the restaurant and jazz club were made via Resy and that I should book them myself. There was no priority for guests and no concierge service to help. I never saw a concierge in the lobby during my 3 day stay. We had a great time at the jazz club and the host was wonderful. We coordinated the experience on our own with no help from the hotel. Noise-We were a little worried about the noise in this hotel as the rooms open to the bar area. Our room was on a high floor it was not that bad and the music shut down around 10:30 pm. They have installed a white noise devise that sounds like a broken air conditioner which was worse than the actual noise. There is some city noise as rooms are facing busy streets but that did not bother us. What did disturb us were the guests next us. You could hear the other guests late at night. Definitely a party hotel. Amenities- The web site states Wi-Fi is free which is great. There is a 34.95 dollar a night room charge. Not sure this is justified. We had no champagne greeting, were not able to enjoy the bar due to a private event, no bathrobes, and no priority at any of the restaurants or clubs. When I completed the guest survey the response I got was if I wanted a bathrobe I should ask for one. Booking- I booked this hotel directly via the hotel website. That was a mistake. After the first night we looked to change hotels. The hotel had rates much cheaper than we were paying on most all of the third party websites. We decided to stick it out and not hassle with a hotel move so
