Two doormen stationed at the front entrance saw us retrieving our luggage from the cab trunk, but made no attempt to help. I had checked in a day earlier and was great full that the room was made available at 12 PM . They did tell us there was no view; I was okay with that as we are in NY regularly and at this trip it was not a priority. I haven’t stayed at this hotel in a few years, but remembered the excellent butler service and lovely accommodations, and was looking forward to it. The checkin felt like something one would expect at a Highway motel. No explanation of any services, no welcome drink, no Butler introductions, nobody accompanied you to the room or directed you to the elevator. The room had the tiniest window, with a curtain without a valance (# 1406) facing a wall a few feet away. No Natural light what so ever. The leather head rest on the bed was ripped on a couple of spots. It had only one not very comfortable lounge chair in a fairly large king room. So if you are a couple, you cannot even sit together for a cup of coffee. In the past at checkin the butler would introduce themselves, offer coffee , tea etc and make sure you were satisfied with the accommodations. We had ballet tickets for a matinee, so initially decided to just go with the flow. Went for a quick lunch at the Astor, paid around $170 for 2 ceaser salads, a bloody mary and a glass of Duvel Leroy Champagne. I have no problems paying premium prices for value , but $28 for a Bloody Mary with a celery stalk garnish and stoli vodka? They claimed to have invented it , but definitely not worth the price. When we returned back from the ballet and returned to the room , it seemed really depressing. They call it an interior room , but it could easily be in a windowless basement. We requested a room change and requested to speak to a manager. We were told the manager was downstairs and would call us back. We were going to dinner, so left the front desk our cell number. The manager ever returned the call. On our return when we requested a room change, we were told that they were completely sold out. At this point we were exhausted an decided to just let it go and returned to our room for a good nights sleep. It was around 10:30 PM, and there was a continuous loud rumbling sound. When we called the front desk , we were told that the noise was from their service elevator which was being used a lot that night as 2 of their 4 passenger elevators had been broken for a couple of days. They offered to now move us to another room. So at 11 Pm we had to get dressed and pack up to move to another room. The new room (1903), had a moldy smell. Got up next morning with a back ache as the bed was not comfortable. In the morning the moldy smell seems to have gotten even worse and I did report that. I read a lot of comments and chose this hotel. I really didn't choose the wrong one. The location is very good, whether it is a long-distance bus or subway, or take the airport bus to the airport, or want to go to the Grand Central Railway Station, very close. . . There is also Times Square. . . At the intersection of 41st Street and Madison Avenue, the door is small, mainly the name on the door is written in a special font, which made us not notice when we first went there. 200 meters away from the New York City Public Library, which is not 200 meters away from Fifth Avenue, it is not necessary. There are three types of rooms in the hotel, which are about 19, 25, and 33 square meters, and 19 is relatively small. I booked 25 for the second night, but the order information sent by Ctrip to the hotel was wrong. The first night I checked in was the 19 room. It was very late to react. The size of the room was wrong. I coordinated with the front desk and Ctrip. Ctrip immediately found the problem and made compensation, and moved to the largest room of 33 the next day. If it is a single person, the room of 19 is enough. For two people, the baggage can't be opened, and it can only be put to the bedside. In addition, in particular, after the store, the hotel charges a fee of 20 US dollars per day. This fee is breakfast, all-day coffee snacks, afternoon tea, which is very worthwhile. Especially afternoon tea, with cheese, fruit, a variety of small snacks, red and white wine and champagne. . . . In addition, this location is on 41st Street, when the 99th Street in Central Park in New York is basically a full 2km. I ran in the morning and ran another 10km in Central Park. I am very happy. Central Park is a must-see for everyone who loves sports. Running, cycling, and dog-walking are all very good. . .

We stayed here for 4 nights during a visit to NYC for a family wedding event. We chose this hotel for the location (near wedding functions) and positive reviews on Trip Advisor). We paid approximately $525 (room, taxes and fees) per night for a one bedroom suite (we needed the extra room for event decorations). First the positives. The hotel is located in a nice area which we found to be close to everything we needed. Good restaurants, good coffee shops and, most importantly, good bagel shops. The hotel staff members were always friendly and courteous, and had excellent recommendations for shopping and restaurants. One hint is to ask for a room up on a higher floor, as our 4th floor room had views of a brick wall and a fire escape stairway. The bar and restaurant were cute and service was great. Unfortunately the hotel is dated, with stained carpet and furniture in the rooms, a bathtub drain that was very slow to drain, and missing and broken tile and grout in the bathroom. One issue that we had (and may not bother others) is the bed sheets were very “itchy”. I am not sure if it is due to the detergent they use, but we would wake up at 3:00 am scratching all over, and then could not get back to sleep. However, my biggest pet peeve was”the dirty spoon” that was on the breakfast bar. The room had a little breakfast bar with a sink, refrigerator, coffee maker, and cups and glasses. There was one spoon to use with coffee, but it was dirty when we arrived. Each morning I placed the spoon in a dirty glass, or dirty cup or even moved it into the room. But it always made its way back to the breakfast bar and was never cleaned. This became a running joke with our group and each day everyone wanted to know what happened to “Spoony”. I did mention this to the front desk and was told “sorry”. One morning we overheard a couple checking out and they were very vocal about the poor condition of their room (also their refrigerator did not work and they needed it for their medication) and they were comped at least one night. All in all this was a nice hotel, but you can do better in this area. Quite frankly, if it wasn’t such a hassle, we would have checked out and moved to another hotel.
