Hotel Stanford

There are many Pros and only one Con to staying at Hotel Stanford. First the Pros: The hotel is in Korea Town smack in the middle of Midtown Manhattan. Ideal if your plan is to walk to many of NY's best sites. Only a few feet from Harold Square and one block from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station--easy access to trains and the subway. 15-minute walk to the Empire State Building and Time Square and 10 minutes from Joe's Pizza, one of NY's best. The area is busy and crowded but seemed safe to us. The hotel is quite nice--we were upgraded (without request) to a mini suite, the AC is thermostat-controlled and worked, comfortable beds with nice pillows and duvets. There is complimentary breakfast in the morning, albeit in a very small and crowded room and there are 2 bars, one operated by the hotel, and one stand-alone next to the lobby, that serves bar food. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, particularly Jun at check-in. Our only criticism of the Stanford is that, although the bathroom had a large tub and a walk-in shower, there are no grab bars anywhere. This makes it quite unsafe and sadly (because we loved the place otherwise) would dissuade us from staying again.
