Hotel Riu Monica - Adults Only

Just returned from a weeks stay. The Hotel is excellent. They have got everything right. The place is spotless and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. Bar prices are reasonable - 7-8 euros for a cocktail and 3.50 for red wine which is great value. The location is perfect, we had a 10 metre walk from our poolside loungers to the beach and a 10 minute walk into the main square of Nerja. Breakfast and evening meal offer a large variety of foods for all tastes and the our door balcony of the restaurant overlooks the pool and beach. All in all a very good, well run, hotel in a lovely location.

My father-in-law and mother-in-law stayed at this hotel in July 2025 for a 2-week holiday. Whilst on holiday, my father-in-law had to be rushed to the hospital, quite poorly. The team at the hotel were exceptional, as my mother-in-law was on her own for a few days, until I could get to the resort. I had booked a hotel just around the corner. However, whilst I was staying in the other hotel, as this one was full, the Riu Monica team allowed me to support my mother-in-law whenever I needed to visit. They helped us with Taxi bookings, communications with the hospital, and I was also able to dine with my mother-in-law on an evening whilst my father-in-law was in the hospital, as they are in their late 70s and early 80s, it was vital that I could be around for support. I've travelled to many countries and visited many hotels, and I have to say this is by far the nicest, caring, and most considerate hotel and team I have ever encountered. As a Riu Member, it's a pleasure to have written this for the team and hotel. I will be visiting again, and I will stay at the Riu Monica when we come back to visit.

After 2 previous visits to Riu Nautilus we thought we would try The Monica in Nerja. I must say i was really disappointed. Don’t get me wrong the location was perfect, the staff amazing, and the rooms very clean. The problem was the ridiculous Sun Bed Grand National Sprint at 8 am every morning. Being kept back behind a chain and having to join queue at 7.45 is not my idea of a relaxing holiday. When the chain went down people were running and actually throwing their towels on loungers like a Frisbee Competition ! First morning an argument ensued with a lady who obviously had the same four sun beds since 1974 ! when I put my two towels down said “ There mine” sorry I dont go on holiday for this. I found the rooms dated and the shower was hopeless. Such a shame as Nerja is an amazing resort but would not stay at The Monica again. oh and the cockroach that ran through the breakfast room and over a guests sandal completely put me off, especially when the guy cooking the eggs ran round and squished it with his shoe.
