The prices are high, but you always know that it's well worth it. The best is the main building, which gives you a sense of the weight of history. The unobtrusive, unassuming renovation has made it even more comfortable. Dinner at the French restaurant Sorbier is always so appealing that I'm interested. Even if I stay multiple nights, I always end up ordering it here. I'm not sure why the popular consommé soup has recently become an optional menu item, but it's still so appealing that I always end up ordering it.

It takes 44 minutes by train from Nagano to Myoko Plateau Station. In early summer, the whole way is green and pleasing to the eye. I made an appointment for the pick-up at 14:10 by email. The reply was very fast and the popularity was very high. Two minibuses are needed for the pick-up at this point. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the hotel. You will pass the cable car station on the way. The hotel is a red-roofed European-style ski plateau hotel. The reception lobby is retro and low-key, not tall and luxurious. The service is professional and enthusiastic. They are very patient and friendly to the elderly and foreign tourists. I booked a single room. There are very few rooms of this type in the main building. I think there are only two or four rooms. The double rooms in the main building face the view, which are more. The others are deluxe suites in the infinity pool suite building. My room 301 is an end room. The view is not as good as the twin room, and the window is not as big as the twin room, but there are two windows, and the view is also good. The main building is older and the rooms are not big. The single room is only 23 square meters, the toilet is old-fashioned and manually flushed, and the bathroom is a bit higher, but I like it very much after I moved in, like the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, old but not dilapidated and well used, the room has no odor, is very clean, very quiet, warm and comfortable. The lounge has drinks and alcohol. As soon as you taste it, you can feel that the hotel strictly selects quality and has its own high standards. Nothing is fooled. The alcohol and coffee are excellent. Dinner has Kaiseki cuisine, BBQ and Shabu-shabu. Kaiseki cuisine is the default. The Kaiseki cuisine I had was very good. Breakfast is only buffet and of excellent quality. The suite building is very new with a popular infinity pool and a large bath. The infinity pool has a magnificent view. The large bath is very good and the outdoor area is not large. The service and quality of the hotel are impressive. Fortunately, there is a moderately priced single-person one-night stay and two meals. One day of sleep is too little, so I ordered a two-night stay in September, so that I can take the cable car up the mountain to see and experience the spa that won the international gold award. For meals, there are three restaurants of good quality, and there are also simple meals for lunch. I really want to experience the Highland Empire but I can't book it. It's great here. The disadvantage is that there is no wireless network in 301. I stayed in the Seasons Garden of Kusatsu Onsen, a hotel of the Kyoritsu Group, before. It can't be compared with this place. This is a truly excellent Japanese service hotel with excellent traditions. It strives for excellence in quality. Seasons Garden is a pure garbage hotel.

This is my favorite hotel, and I think my July stay was my 10th. Because it's far from Tokyo, I usually stay here once or twice a year, but this year I stayed back in June and July. It takes over five hours by car, but when I arrived and took in the views from the lobby, my room, the Aqua Terrace, and the open-air bath, I thought, "Akakura Kanko Hotel is truly amazing." I ate Japanese food at Aqua Dining in June and at Shirakaba in July. I usually opt for Japanese cuisine, but this time I had dinner at Aqua Dining for the first time in a while. Aqua Dining is located in the Premium Building, with windows on three sides, offering a fantastic view. The food, both the white corn and scallop appetizer and the wagyu steak main course, exceeded my expectations. I was able to confirm that all three restaurants—the famous French restaurant Sorbier, Shirakaba, and Aqua Dining—were of a high standard. I'd love to stay again to enjoy the spectacular views and food from the hotel.

The hotel was clean, and although many of the staff were trainees, they were relatively friendly and I thought it was worth the price. Here are a few things that bothered me: The breakfast buffet at Shirakaba had a variety of options, but none of them were particularly tasty. The French toast, which used to be made to order, was now pre-made, which I didn't feel like eating. This was my first time experiencing a hotel that offered pre-made tea in a pot. Why was this the case when other tea bags were available? Maybe they hadn't tried pre-made tea to see what it tastes like. Lounge service: The sparkling wine was not tasty. The beer was good, so perhaps they should stop serving wine. I hardly saw anyone drinking sparkling wine at breakfast. There was a missing button on the nightwear. I think they didn't check enough. Dinner at Aqua Dining was Italian with a light aftertaste, which I thought would suit an older clientele. The cakes at the cafe were also delicious. However, the breads that were said to be delicious were all fluffy, which didn't suit me as I prefer hard bread. The curry bread I bought as a souvenir was very tasty. Although I didn't see the sea of clouds, the view was beautiful and the hot springs were so effective that I went in several times. I might return...

This hotel was a nice surprise! A warm atmosphere and a great welcome at reception. All the staff are very helpful and kind... Discreet and efficient! 3 different restaurants to vary the menus, the one in the new part is just magnificent with the view of the valley and the water basin all around. Practical lockers for ski equipment which open directly onto the slopes... a real ski in / ski out. The rooms with private Onsen are wonderful. The massages at the Clarins spa were a great experience and the girls very gentle and professional. We can't wait to go back.
