Our first time at the Sutherland for a large family meal, 19 of us to celebrate a birthday , The Sutherland itself has a good atmosphere and was fairly busy for a midweek evening, the staff were very courteous and attentive but unfortunately the meals were well below par especially for what you pay , there were numerous complaints about the food within our party , one guest ordered Gammon without egg or pineapple but with chips and thats literally what she was given , a piece of gammon on a plate , no garnish or salad literally a piece of Gammon !! Some of the guests ordered the Belly Pork which was tough to eat and on one of the meals the belly pork was literally 4 inches long and hard! Some of the chips were also inedible, overall very disappointing especially considering the prices on the menu then to top it off we were told that we weren’t allowed to pay individually only on a maximum of 3 credit/debit cards?! How were we supposed to do that with 19 people I really don’t know or even understand ?! Not impressed and very disappointed, unfortunately we won’t be eating there again. After complaining we were given complimentary drinks but it didn’t stop the experience being tarnished.

This is the 5th time we have visited The Sutherland and as usual we were not disappointed....After a friendly welcome we were shown to our seats in the beautifully appointed conservatory, overlooking the ponds and garden....food was delicious, well presented and served promptly...waiting on staff, especially Izzi , were attentive, polite and helpful ... We will definitely visit again

I’ve been to this place about 10 times the food is lovely but nearly every time I’ve been there’s been a 10 min or so wait to get a drink bought to me and yesterday was 15 minutes and 4 times I’ve I’ve had to ask staff where my drink is. I go every Sunday between 12 and 1 so normally quiet but they’re always a load of staff hanging around f the car and loads of managers floating about but can’t get a drink to me . . Yesterday it took half an hour for my food to come out when the place was not long opened then when it did come out it was missing the Yorkshire pudding. I’m going back to the Redhouse where I went every week for nearly 2 years they know what service is.

We eat in the restaurant and the lay out was lovely and the food was nice, bit on the pricey side for the amount of food on some of the plates however, and the “warm chocolate brownie” was stone cold. But the food came out promptly and was nice, the fault however was the service that was provided. We had 2 different waitresses take our drinks orders and the food showed up before the drinks because the bar hadn’t been given the order. As well when we came to pay at the end we were just left with the card machine even tho it had timed out (so we couldn’t pay) whilst the waitress wondered off to chat and didn’t come back so we had to find another waitress to take the payment for us. The food was good overall but the service was not. unfortunately.

Place itself is fantastic, such an improvement on the old Whitehouse. I had been for drinks a few times and I knew it was on the pricey side, but I never mind paying if things are good. We went with friends and all I can say is it was Ok. Nothing impressive about it, everyone had a nice meal.....but it was just ok. They had ran out of beef for the chilli beef salad so only 1 of us could have it. Then they ran out of sauce for the waffles......that's really not quite good enough for a place charging these prices. As for the portions.....I wouldn't advise anyone to eat here if they have a big appetite or they are really hungry!! Portions are not big, and not value for money. Unfortunately for me The Red House and The Fox at Newport win over The Sutherland but that's just my opinion.

This was sent in a private message, but no response received…. I thought I would offer some feedback on my visit yesterday 28th of February at 6:15 pm - we were seated swiftly - not asked if we had any allergies though and my Friend has… Drinks order taken…. Then asked again by another member of staff would we like to order drinks not an issue, but when you delivered our wine - you nicely placed it next to us in the ice bucket….it would have been nice if at least the screw cap was removed once positioned as I presume you do not pour the wine…. 6:30 pm we ordered our food mains only…. 6:40 pm our food was served….. 6:55 pm plates cleared …. Than asked approximately four times, did we need anything else? So in the end we asked for the bill as felt we had no choice even though still had half a bottle of wine… Disappointing as my friend was over from Australia and I wanted to show her that we had a lovely place finally to eat in the area!

Had a family meal out, I ordered fillet steak, which yes I know is expensive, but the plate was a 1/3 of watercress which I hate, half a tomato, 1 small mushroom and half a pot of chips, what I had was nice but not enough for the money, still starving I order the chocolate brownie dessert, well not warm as menu suggests, and certainly past brownie stage it was just a solid block, covered in butterscotch and ice cream. Think style over substance. I would go again but stick to cheaper menu items, as 3 steaks brought to table each with same minute portions of accompanying sides.
