Classic hotel. The 80’ 5*. Great view from room 222. Nonetheless the room is outdated. The elevator is ages old. Good for short stay. The location is superb with walking distance to Morrisons and Aldi. Great breakfast and environment.

The hotel is almost living history with its art deco grandness. The food is excellent. The rooms are very well appointed. The staff are very friendly. You're on the beach attaching photographs of the food. I would recommend you to eat plenty of car parking and all in all a very nice hotel.

My wife and I celebrated our ruby wedding anniversary here last weekend along with family and friends. We had a nice little function room where we enjoyed our get together and really enjoyable overnight stop, staying in one of the top floor superior bedrooms. We were well looked after throughout our stay. The staff all seemed pleasant and friendly and did their best to be accommodating. I think you have to visit this hotel now with different expectations, yes it has lost that unique and special feeling it once had which is a shame and the menu and food are what you could find at any traditional pub. If you can cope with that thought and the fact that there is a lot of scaffolding up at the seafront side of the hotel I think the hotel still offers a very pleasant stay.

Would love to give this lovely building a 5 star review, sadly I can’t. If I had paid half the amount I would be ok with things. Staff very nice always polite. Nice room. The scaffolding and very dirty windows not good. I understand things are under repair and think the price should reflect that. The breakfast, not good. I’ve had much better in a 2 star hotel, continental terrible. The breakfast room had dirty window bottoms with dirty cloths on them. Our last breakfast on Monday was awful, No breakfast bowls, corn flakes all over the table, no milk. After waiting 10 mins for bowl a member of staff brought out 2! I could go on about the food but I won’t. Just glad I hadn’t booked afternoon tea. Such a shame , staff all very young and doing the best they can. Things at the Midland not good at the moment, I just hope things will improve. Definitely not happy with what I paid.

Having heard from friends that afternoon tea here was excellent considered this for a birthday treat for my wife. To scout it out we called for morning coffee & were shaken at the experience. Two coffees ordered & paid for. Waited & waited. Noticed the staff were all young, none looked out of their teens. No apparent supervisor. After waiting a prolonged period returned to the counter to be brusquely told "they are coming". This was clearly a lie as after another long wait when I was about to get up again one of the staff came to the table to ask "what did you order". Guess what another wait & two coffees arrived - black. Had to then ask for milk!. No apologies, staff very abrupt. As a result, have booked afternoon tea elsewhere. Seriously need to invest in staff training & proper supervisory oversight. I doubt we would bother to return.

My 85 year old mother came over from Australia and was looking forward to having a meal overlooking the sea so I booked a table, the area to sit in was closed as work was being done, we couldn’t even have a conversation the drilling and banging was so loud, I understand repairs need to be done but as it was on such a large scale I would have thought guests would have been informed of the noise and partial closure, she was so disappointed we decided to leave

My parents came here for their 60th wedding anniversary as they have been before and really enjoyed their stay. For their 50th anniversary, we informed the hotel before hand and on their arrival, their room had been upgraded and when they had dinner, the staff had dressed the table up and brought them prosecco. Lovely. This time, we tried to inform the hotel, which was very difficult as reception never answer the phone. My daughter went with my parents this time, so she went to reception to see if anything special could be done for her nan and grandad and was told that she could buy a bottle of prosecco for them. Mum's dinner was burnt, dads was cold and my daughters vegetable curry was like water with loads of peppers and nothing else. The cooked breakfasts were cold too. This used to be an amazing hotel, but has really gone down hill.

First of all, you only have one 75th birthday so I booked for my husband as a treat as we frequently visit the Midland but had not stayed there. The balcony room we were initially given had a view of building repair work right outside, including scaffolding and rotten timber debris. We requested a change and were fortunate to get a room on a higher floor with the works only being visible by looking over the balcony, although they were still within hearing. The meals are served in the terrace which has a good view of the bay but again obscured by scaffolding, ladders, etc. The food in the evening was ok for a pub meal but expensive for what we received and was served on very basic, bare tables. The good points of this hotel now are the breakfasts which were well cooked, although the view of the exposed ceiling joists made me wonder if anything was dropping into my food. The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff we dealt with was the high point of our stay although they do seem to be required to work in a number of different roles all at the same time. On the whole this hotel has definitely lowered it's standards with the different owners and we will not be staying again unless we are sure it has improved.
