Yala Avian Eye Safari

We had an amazing stay at Yala Avian Eye Safari. The accomodation was perfect (the aircon was a big plus) and Bhagya and his family looked after us so well, cooking us some delicious food. We stayed for 2 nights and went on an evening and morning safari where we managed to see a leopard!! He also took us out in his jeep for free to see some elephants which was very kind!! Thank you for an unforgettable stay - we would highly recommend to anyone looking to do a safari in Yala national park!

We chose Yala Avian Eye for the Safari experience and it didn't dissapoint! Bhagya is a super guide who really knows the area and animals and thanks to him we saw two Leopards in the park ❤️ Also saw Elephants with baby, Mongoose, Crocodile, numerous Birds and lots of other creatures too. The safari is very reasonably priced and excellent value for money. The accommodation itself is rustic and no frills but perfectly fine for a short stay while you're on safari. Wi-fi worked pretty well, the shower was surprisingly good (hot and great pressure) and the room had air-con and was comfortable. Plus there is a well stocked fridge with cold beers and soft drinks which are great after the safari. Dinner is cooked by Bhagya's mother who made us a delicious selection of curry. Breakfast was also great and we had honey coconut roti, again homemade, that was again delicious. Plus fresh fruits and a well made omelette. Respect to the cook! This place is an amazing, authentic, rustic experience and if you want to experience the real Sri Lanka and see some amazing animals I would fully recommend staying here!

Our stay at Bhagya's place was the highlight of our two weeks in Sri Lanka and I'd urge anyone considering going on safari in Sri Lanka to book with him - you won't be disappointed. He has a huge amount of experience of running safari trips and he is excellent at spotting wildlife. We saw so many different animals on our safari including a leopard and later he took us to a beautiful lake and we saw wild elephants washing themselves. We had lots of fun with him, including swimming in the river and playing games. He has a customised jeep so you can stand up and look out of the roof and he drove us around all over the area, including taking us shopping in nearby Buttala. The rooms are well equipped with fridge, washing machine and air con and the food, home-cooked by his mum, was delicious. It was also incredibly good value!

I stayed at Yala avian eye safari, it was awesome. There is a great tour in the national park, and we saw bears, monkeys, elephants and crocodiles, and plenty of other animals. The homestay is awesome as well, with a great wi fi, awesome cold drinks in the fridge, and even coffee making machine etc. The mother is my favourite chef in Sri Lanka, and entire experience is brilliant and air conditioned! Highly recommend this to everyone this is my third visit, Feels like home to me, I’ll be coming back again!

Bhagya and his family are truly lovely people. They'll make you immediately feel like home but still respect your need of privacy. The room is well equipped and has an A/C, a great shower and a comfy bed. Bhagya's mum is a great chief and she prepared delicious breakfasts and dinners. The whole family take care about the environment and animals, which is soooo great! We went twice on a safari with Bhagya and can really recommend to do safaris with him. He spotted so many animals, which we'd never have spotted. We saw a great variety of species and even had the chance to see a leopard. Bhagya takes care of the animal welfare, so he is turning of the engine to not stress the animals and you'll find yourself listening to the wildlife sounds. Bhagya also took us to a nearby river, which was such a great experience. It was really relaxing and so much fun. If you plan to visit Yala Nationalpark, please come here and experience this little place of paradise.

Lovely family homestay and private Safari tours. Bhagya has built a lovely place perfect for experiencing the quieter Northern side of Yala. We hear the main south entrance is getting super crowded and full of jeeps. So we looked for a place to do Safaris from the North entrance. Also more convenient if you're coming from the Ella direction (or continuing in that direction?) We did two Safaris (about 4 hours each), evening and morning. We were able to see a bit of the elusive Leopard during the evening safari. If take the safari from the main entrance you may have a better chance of seeing more of the Leopard because all the guides can spot an call each other, but again you'll be surrounded by other jeeps. Here we were 4 at most and all the rest of the time completely our own. Bhagya certainly has an Avian eye and helped us spot so many different types of birds, which Yala is also famous for. On the morning safari we saw the Crocodiles in the lake. Evening from about 2:15pm to 6:15 and morning 5:45 to 9:45. Bhagya's mom also cook an amazing dinner and breakfast making this perfect way to experience Sri Lanka. Very fair prices and entirely run by Bhagya and his family.
