Las Terrazas de Dana Boutique Lodge & Spa

Good location - able to do birdwatching in the morning and afternoon from the hotel (we saw a toucan, hummingbirds, tanagers, flycatchers, and egrets). Did a separate birdwatching tour which was amazing. The hotel is a short taxi to the town and cable car for the waterfalls (which is recommended). The breakfast was tasty, the restaurant for dinner was great with a beautiful view too. Marco was the best! He gave good advice for our daily itinerary that made sure we got the most out of our time in Mindo. We’re very happy with our stay and choice of hotel.

Las Terrazas de Dana is incredible. My boyfriend and I had a lovely three-night stay in the Master Suite. We were generously upgraded upon check-in, which was a wonderful surprise. I originally chose this hotel based on all the glowing reviews—and now I’m excited to add my own five-star review! Food: Everything was fresh, crisp, and healthy. I’m vegan, and the restaurant team went above and beyond to accommodate me with filling and delicious meal options. I chose to eat exclusively at the hotel during my time in Mindo, as I have a sensitive stomach, and I appreciated that they used purified water for cooking. I felt great the entire time. Room service was also a special treat—timely and beautifully presented. Room: The Master Suite offers an entrancing view of the cloud forest hillside from the balcony window. I loved watching the clouds drift by and listening to the soothing sound of rain—one of my favorite memories from the trip. The bed was comfortable, the shower was great, and we enjoyed the bathroom jacuzzi twice—it was very tranquil. While some insects made their way into the room, it wasn’t an issue at all given the natural surroundings. Bug spray was provided, and I didn’t get any mosquito bites! The walk to the room is uphill, but it’s lined with beautiful plants and worth the short trek. Staff: The hotel’s website is both beautiful and informative. David was very responsive to all my email inquiries, and once we arrived, Marco took excellent care of us—offering suggestions for activities and calling taxis when needed. This is a truly special hotel, and every staff member was helpful and attentive. I felt so well cared for, and when I returned to my hotel in Quito, I genuinely missed the warmth and hospitality of Las Terrazas. Activities & Safety: I felt completely safe in Mindo. Local taxis were easy to use, and English was spoken at the main tourist spots when needed. I especially loved the Yumbos chocolate tour, the Mariposario: Mariposas de Mindo, interacting with hummingbirds on Hermit’s Trail, and taking the tarabita and 20 minute walk to the Nambillo cascada. The weather was mild, with a mix of sun and rain each day—it reminded me of paradise, maybe even a little like Hawaii. I wish I had booked a spa treatment—next time for sure! Transport: Las Terrazas de Dana arranged private transport to and from our airport hotel. Our driver, Byron, was great and I felt very safe with his cautious driving. The road to Mindo is winding and narrow— just one lane going each way—so we went slowly at times, especially behind trucks. The transport vehicle was very comfortable, and I appreciated being able to adjust the A/C in the back seat, which helped with the mild motion nausea I felt at the start. I also loved that Mindo is at a much lower altitude than Quito, which made it a great place to acclimate. We opted for a stop at Mitad del Mundo during our drive back to Quito. We had an amazing time at Las Terrazas de Dana! The staff is absolutely amazing. I have never experienced such hospitality and kindness anywhere. They treated us like family and went above and beyond for our entire stay, starting with the driver who picked us up in Quito. My kids adored the two dogs on the property and they are clearly the stars of the show! The pool was so clean and my kids really enjoyed swimming. The food was amazing, especially the juice and the ceviche! We also enjoyed some fantastic dessert for my son’s birthday and they made sure he felt extra special. The rooms were beautiful and the views were stunning. Everything was clean and well maintained. Mindo is beautiful and everyone there is so kind and welcoming.

Las Terrazas de Dana exceeded my expectations by far. Everything about this hotel was wonderful. The view from my room, the food, the room itself AND the service was better than most 5 Star hotels. I’m not even exaggerating. The staff is just THE BEST!!! Did I mention the food? My goodness! One of my favorite dishes was lamb In chocolate/coffee sauce. OMG!!!! The breakfast was soooooo good too. Mindo was a perfect choice for a relaxing vacation in nature. I will be coming back again!

We just spent a wonderful four nights at Las Terrazas de Dana and cannot say enough about this boutique lodge. The exceptional service began months ago when I looked into booking our stay. David was immediately responsive, answered my questions and offered options for transportation to the lodge and suggestions on what we might like to do during our visit. We chose the option of a driver meeting us at the airport when our middle of the night flight landed vs checking into a Quito airport hotel and being transported in the morning through busy Quito and its traffic. Our nighttime travel plan payed off when we woke in our amazing room to the sounds of birds as we looked out over the jungle - the sun lighting up the clouds and distant mountains. When we were warmly greeted by the team the next morning as we checked in for breakfast, I knew we were in a special place. The setting is quite magical. Walking distance to town (or a quick taxi) - but surrounded by lush jungle wherever you look. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, the large pool is a refreshing end to an adventurous day and their two dogs made us miss ours back at home a little less. Every single member of the team, headed up by Marco, was friendly and engaging. Marco was somehow always available and ready to help us plan our next day or call a taxi. We did a wonderful five-hour birding tour where we watched cock of the rock, several varieties of toucan, dozens of hummingbirds - and many other birds. Final note - the restaurant team is wonderful and accommodating and the dining area lighting and natural setting is so peaceful. We went into town for dinner one night and struggled to find a place with the ambience of Las Terrazas de Dana. We are grateful we chose this special lodging as the first stop of a wonderful journey in Ecuador.
