Che Nomadas Mérida Hostel Adults Only

Me and my partner pre-booked a cenotes trip before arriving as I received an email encouraging us to prebook to avoid disappointment as the tours can get overbooked. They did not accept cash payment to prebook or allow me to pay via debit card, so I had to do an international transfer (which cost additional fees) to secure the tour. After paying the money, I received a WhatsApp that the trip was cancelled I was encouraged to book on their other cenotes trip instead (for over double the price!). I refused and asked for a refund but have still not received my money back (over three months later) despite me sending multiple messages to the hostel.

All is made to socialize with other travelers in Che Nomadas Mérida ! Plenty of activities organized such as coctelería, yoga session, day tours and salsa course. The hostel is well located and not far from Plaza Grande (10 minutes walk). The whole staff is really helpful, especially Alexis and Flaura. I was staying in a comfy private room with TV, air conditioner and hot tub water.

I can't say enough of a great things about this Hostel. I stayed there for 4 weeks this September-October and will never stay anywhere else in Merida. And few times before. First of all the crew is happy, helpful, professional, friendly, very hard working. Every single one. I will list names at the end of this review. The food is best in whole Merida, the cook is a beautiful soul and that makes his food outstanding. Please tip guys generously. The Coffee! The Burger! I wish there were more on the menu, so i didn't have to go anywhere else. :) Felipe - the manager works as hard as everyone else and the generous, kind soul. Helped me at harsh times - for ever grateful! Gibran can make any day just a Holiday! Katy - is for ever smiling and helpful. The cleaning crew - amazing. The pool is much better than on pictures. The greenery, tons of palms - the rooms! I stayed in both: private and dorms. Comfy! Please be mindful and clean after yourself. The music is not overwhelming like in other hostels. Plus I am not young, I was there for health reasons but I didn't feel my age at all. Was extremely surprised. People talked to me, shared and ask questions, showed nothing but respect. We really enjoyed our stay here. We had a private room on the first floor at the end of the block so it was really quiet which was great. Being a bit older we weren’t going there to party but wanted some atmosphere. Clean room and en-suite and good water pressure and temperature. Comfortable bed and clean linen. Our only negative was we were trying to find out about the tours and were told by the front desk it’d be posted on the WhatsApp group. A number of hours later still nothing so I posted asking for them. No reply. We knew we had to book on by 8pm for the next day and so went back to the desk at 7.45pm, asked the woman who was notified that we hadn’t been told, gave us all the information and got us booked on. She then posted on the group WhatsApp so others knew. So I guess it depends on who’s working to how this part goes. After the tour which was very good, we ended up having a few beers and joining in the free salsa class - very good teacher. And then Sarah (from Spain) who is working there was so friendly and chatty and encouraged us to have drinks and we got chatting to other people and ended up joining the drinking games and pub crawl and had a fab night out! Such a great fun group and atmosphere and comfortable room to die in the next morning after too many drinks!! 😄

I had a great two stays here in January and in February. It ticked all the boxes for me …… and I’m very happy to recommend it to everyone, without reservation. Katy at the desk is incredible ….. she can’t do enough to help. Erick in the kitchen, is a legend, preparing a great breakfast every morning ….. a lovely gent! Seydi keeps the rooms at top standard …. greeting everyone with a smile. Wren, Kellie and Jess were three lovely volunteers there during my second stay. In fact, all were very helpful. The only unfriendly person I met in Che was the night-man who was on duty the morning I left. I arrived at his desk at 1:45 am …… no hello, no smile…… all he said was, ‘Can I have your key’…… not even a thank you or a good bye. A smile and thank you goes a long way. However, all the other lovely people do Che very proud. Thank you, everyone.

Chilled Hostel, nice and clean, rooms are not so big, the toilette and shower was inside the room and the sink outside which was a little bit annoying. Otherwise perfect for a few day stay and to stroll arround. The pool is chilled and you are allowed to bring in your own drinks. Bars, restaurants, plazas and so on are near by.
