Matera Hotels with Wi-Fi

I recently stayed at the Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel and Spa in Matera, and it was an unforgettable experience. The rooms are carved out of historic caves, offering a unique and enchanting atmosphere that blends modern luxury with ancient charm. The location is perfect, nestled within the Matera Sassi UNESCO World Heritage site, providing easy access to the city’s main attractions. The hotel’s amenities are top-notch. I particularly enjoyed the spa facilities, which include a sauna, hammam, and a heated indoor pool. The staff were incredibly professional and attentive, ensuring that all my needs were met with a smile. The cleanliness of the rooms and common areas was impeccable, adding to the overall comfort of my stay. One minor downside was the cost of some extras, which felt a bit high. Additionally, while the cave-themed rooms are stunning, they might not be for everyone due to the unique layout and lighting. Despite these small issues, the overall experience was exceptional, and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious and unique stay in Matera.

The staff was exceptionally welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely attentive to our needs, always going the extra mile to ensure a memorable stay. The location was also ideal, adding to the overall convenience. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Very good hotel, very convenient in the central area of Matera. Follow the hotel's travel guidelines, reach the main church square and call the hotel. The hotel will send someone to help with luggage. Because there are steps, luggage service is very needed. The rooms are fully equipped, the bathrooms are modernly decorated, the equipment is very good, and the living is comfortable. Hotel service is also very good. The key is to play Matera, all need to walk, up and down, the hotel location is also very important. Because the hotel itself has a small number of rooms, the price is relatively reasonable, after all, it needs to be equipped with a certain scale of service facilities. Such as the hotel restaurant (Figure 1) is great. Because I had two breakfasts there, I didn't choose dinner. I went to the only Michelin-star restaurant in Matera (Figure 5). Because it was Michelin, the price was high, but unfortunately it cost 150 euros/person for the package. It was actually seven points full. The form and content were uneven and I was very disappointed. In short, this hotel is worth recommending. Michelin wise men see wisdom 1

The place was perfect: central, close to nice restaurants and bars, well decorated, nice staff, great SPA (worth the 25 EUR fee to access it!) and what a great breakfast buffet! Do choose the suites, they really are worth the extra price. They were all booked for our second night and so we had to move to a standard room and it wasn’t as great.

What a find! We stayed for our 30th Anniversary and we were treated royally (thank you, we really appreciated all you did for us, you went above and beyond). We’ve never stayed in a hotel like it, the location was fantastic, the rooms were built in caves and had everything you wished for. The breakfast was outstanding and you ate whilst a pianist played in the corner of the room. All the staff were attentive and friendly, arranging tour guides and recommending great restaurants ensuring a memorable stay. A true haven of comfort and elegance, highly recommended for discerning travellers!

The rooms are old caves modified to hotel standards and are quaint but comfortable with a small fridge, Sky TV (little in English) and reasonable AC. We enjoyed four nights with friends in Matera. The hotel is well placed, surrounded by restaurants in the heart of the 'Sassi' - Old Town. There are tables and chairs outside the 'Hobbit' style rooms to enjoy an al fresco breakfast or late night drink. There is no bar and reception is closed by 10pm, so you will need to be prepared with beers and drinks. Some reception staff only speak Italian or very limited English. There is no parking at the hotel or for non Matera residents in the Sassi. We found parking at 'Damascus Parking' (details provided by the hotel), was reasonable at 20 Euros per day with a shuttle to and from the hotel. Be sure to organise your return shuttle in good time especially if leaving early. The rooms have a portable dehumidifier which would be well advised to use. If you are not familiar with these boxes on wheels ask the hotel to explain. The access to the hotel and all of the old town is by steps and a labyrinth of paths which are smooth and can be slippery. We advise god trainers rather than flip flops for getting around. We found Matera a charming adventure built in a higgeldy piggeldy warren that is firmly focused on tourism. Three days are more than enough, more would be stretching everything on offer.

To be honest, I was skeptical about this one. I needed to book the hotel last minute (like literally the previous night), so seeing an old-looking building (probably constructed in the 1980s) was not really encouraging BUT I wanted to see Matera, so I went ahead. The hotel surprised me and by a lot. First of all - yes, the building is old BUT all inside is renovated, so all is great. The rooms are good in size (not too small at all, just right) and everything is very clean. You have a full minibar if you want something and the hotel has a working restaurant and staff at reception 24/7. The breakfast is phenomenal (like, literally anything any traveler could want) and the staff are helpful and friendly. The best thing about the hotel is the location. Basically, there is no other hotel in Matera which is closer to the Sassi and the historical center. You just need 5 minutes of slow walking (entrance to the old town square is just behind the hotel :) ) and you are at the viewpoint and the cistern. There is a vending machine for snacks and drinks just less than 10 minutes away down the street from the hotel (in the old town) and any sights and amazing places to eat are within the same 5-10 minute distance. If you want to see the historical center of Matera, this is the place to stay (you won't regret it, trust me!). The hotel is very popular with Italians visiting Matera, so keep that in mind and if you are not travelling solo, like me, better book in advance :) The prime location comes with a single downside and a few things to consider (listing them here as they are just things to keep in mind and not something that is a huge issue) - the proximity to the Sassi means you will be quite far away from the bus station (3 kilometers) and the train station (1.5 kilometers). The distance is not that much BUT it is an uphill slope 90% of the time, so if you have a lot of luggage, better take a taxi. I loved it, so there is nothing I can put my finger at as a bad things, really, I just want to continue what I started above with the things you should keep in mind when visiting. If you come by car, make sure to notify the hotel in advance, as it is within a restricted parking area and parking lots are limited. Also be aware that the hotel is busy (as I said, very popular with Italians visiting) and check-in starts at 15.00, so if you come in earlier than that, you may need to wait. The staff would do anything they can to accommodate you early, BUT if you plan on arriving before noon, better notify them, to get your room ready. The hotel also have luggage storage, just so you know. Did I say I loved it? Just to repeat I can't wait to return!

A special experience. Take a taxi for 10 Euros from the long-distance bus station to the hotel. The driver took the initiative to call the hotel staff to help carry the luggage because there are steps to go up. The hotel maintains the most primitive accommodation conditions, mainly lighting by candles. There is no TV. The hot water was out of condition and was not repaired for a while. As compensation, we delayed the check out and left Matera at night. The breakfast was great. The front desk is also very welcoming. Help us boil hot water, print boarding passes, and call a taxi. There are many cave hotels in the area, this one is very authentic and high-quality.

An exquisite hotel in a perfect location in Matera. The staff was most helpful and the breakfast was just amazing. The guide that the hotel arranged for us was excellent as were the restaurants they suggested. This is a perfect hotel for a very special occasion. There are spa services available which are very good.
