A fantastic stay after finishing Cammino Materano, on the doorstep of the Sassi, quiet and peaceful

Piazza Mulino is well located close to the center of Matera within easy walking distance of the Sassi. It is a simple place, very clean, and comfortable. Great value for money.

Worst experience in staying in independent accommodation. Left in the rain for 1 hour. Tried 18 calls not answered A very unpleasant man turned up and yelled at us in Italian. We felt very intimidated. When we went out we believe someone entered the room and turned off all lights and heating. Nice room but it’s in an apartment not a hotel like pictures make you believe. Next morning 1/2 hour before check out we returned back and the angry man was waiting for us. Yelling about lights left on. This was a small bathroom light we’d missed when we went for a walk. He virtually threw us out of the hotel. Standing in front of the bedroom window making us very uncomfortable. Very very unpleasant stay.

in summary - GREAT customer service, GREAT room with more than the average amenities, GREAT location. Parking not the easiest, but if you're patient, you can find free parking; paid parking is easier or just book garage space. We booked a mix of hotels and unhosted properties in the medium price range. For unhosted properties, we expects hosts to be easy to contact and they timely communication about "check in" procedures, rules of the house, as well as getting wifi info plus whatsapp and/or email contact in case something goes wrong at the last minute. I had to re-book our Matera stay at the last minute because it seems several properties in Matera DO NOT HAVE WIFI ! I never even thought to double check this when booking. I was able to find Piazza Mulino 26 and as soon as I booked, our host contacted me with the process for checkin throught the booking site. Sometimes, these messages get delayed, so we switched to whatsapp and email at her suggestion. Any question or concern I had was immediately addressed. By far - the best care and concern by the host of any properties during our trip. Prior to arrival, we received all of the codes and process for accessing the room. I wish this were true for all of the properties we had booked ! Upon arrival, we used whatsapp to inform our host of our arrival and almost immediately appeared to set us up with entrance and explanation about the room. And, on top of this excellent customer service, the room is very well located for visiting the historic center of Matera. We were given excellent instructions on which sites to visit as well as good information about accessing the national park as well as the best walking routes. The room itself seems almost new and decorated in a homely yet stylish fashion with enough hangers and other amenities, including one of the few rooms on our trip with a refrigerator, coffee maker and electric kettle. The room size and bathroom were quite comfortable for the two of us. The bed was one of the most comfortable of all of the stays and had extra pillows as well. After a lot of walking, it was very amenable for a relaxing and deep sleep. There are also tables in the piazza exclusive for guest use with access to wifi. Free street parking is a bit tough, although there is paid parking near the property. As well, there is limited paid parking garage space solely for guest use. We did find parking easier on Via Lupo Protospata, a 10 minute walk away. There are two entrances to the property - on Via Antonio Passarelli has just a few steps, while coming in through the Piazza Mulino, there are about 1.5 floors of stairs .... Thank you to Piazza Mulino 26 for the BEST stay of our trip and for excellent customer service and support !!! Even at the end of our stay, they tried to accommodate our schedule .... I wish we could have stayed longer ......
