Hôtel Amista Marseille

Friendly staff, fantastic central location, the room was basic but comfortable. The view from the balcony was charming. I would stay here again.

4 of us were staying here for the European Rugby Finals. Hotel was very easy to find from the station and located close to the main port with it's many bars and restaurants. Our room was one of the superior ones facing the square and on the top floor, the shower was broken and would not fix to the wall so made showering a bit of an effort. Our friends were on first floor and had no air con for the whole trip, fans were bought in but temperature was very hot and they suffered with no air con. Breakfast was basic but pastries were freshly baked as was the bread. Sadly the hotel was let down by the staff on our last night. A glass of red wine fell off the table and bounced on the floor then shattered, my foot was cut by the glass and was bleeding very badly. Fortunately for me one of those in the bar was a nurse and she knew what to do. She asked the staff for the first aid kit and all they had was a box of plasters, no gloves, antiseptic wipes nothing. The staff were trying to close up the bar and couldn't or wouldn't understand that I had to have my leg raised up to try and stem the blood flow. At no point did the receptionist come over to see how I was or whether we needed a Doctor/ambulance. The bar staff were trying to clear up the blood, wine and glass whilst I was still being treated. The nurse used some of the plasters to make sutures to seal the wound and kept applying pressure to the wound until she was happy that the blood had stopped. When we checked out the next morning no mention was made of my injury or enquiring as to how I was. We opted for a taxi to the airport so I didn't have to walk to the station then get on the bus.

This is my third stay at this hotel. It is centrally located and there is a restaurant and bar on the first floor. It is very low key and small

Great budget option but lacking basics Location great. Staff very nice and helpful. Room was lacking things that one might take for granted (no room safe! No kettle, barely room to go around the bed, shower refurbished but not rest of bathroom, gloomy dark corridors, super slow small elevator ...) i think its a fantastic budget hotel for young people visiting Marseille but if you you can afford it and expect a higher standard (and a room safe) i would advise other options.
