Juma Ópera Boutique Hotel & Spa

We were sadly disappointed with this hotel. Before noting what we didn’t like, I do want to say that all the staff was friendly and kind. I imagine the issues are more to do with management and decision that don’t make the guest feel that the hotel is generous and worth the value of being one of the priciest hotels in Manaus. I would particularly suggest that they offer free water to guests. Since guests are often just arriving in the Amazon, and need to hydrate and many prefer to brush teeth, etc with bottled water, it would be a simple service to offer. Also, we could not get more than lukewarm water in our room. I even had an upgraded room, which gave us a view of the Opera House, and was large, but very basic. The phone didn’t work to call down to the lobby for help, the restaurant was beautiful but very slow and overpriced. We ended up cancelling our stay for our final night on the other side of our boat trip into the Amazon, and instead book another hotel, but they would not refund our room (it was a non-refundable room, but we were really dissatisfied), but ******* kindly did help me with this so we could finish our trip in another hotel. I’m sorry for the wonderful staff, but I think the hotel needs renovation, more services for guests, and especially more generosity for what guests are paying.

We stayed here twice before and after our trip to Juma Amazon Lodge. First trip was fine and uneventful since we stayed there for only 7 hours. On the return trip, we had issues with the room. First the air conditioning made a loud intermittent noise which was very annoying. The maintenance person came quickly to try and fix it. Unfortunately, their solution was to set the fan to high speed which meant that it would be difficult to regulate the temperature. Not great solution but workable. Then overnight, the air conditioning broke and to make it worse, a tremendous foul smell came from the bathroom most likely from the sewer drain. It was explained to me that it is a common issue when it rains, and I believe it was made worse by the lack of air conditioning. They fixed the air conditioning but then it broke down again after 5 hours. I am writing this review as I sit in my room 112 with no air and with the sewer smell increasing. This hotel is one of the most expensive if not the mode expensive in Manaus. The staff tried to fix the issue but I am annoyed that management knew about this problem and had not resolved it before.

My travel partner and I stayed at the Juma Opera hotel in mid-April 2025 on our final night in Manaus following a river cruise. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable...and with an excellent view of the Teatro Amazonas (the rooftop pool & sitting area are fantastic). No major issues but we rank this hotel below another option just down the street for the following reasons. The layout of the Juma is awkward as it's divided among separate buildings. There's no direct access to the lobby and the restaurant is in a courtyard between the structures. For the one lunch we ate at the restaurant the service was extremely slow and the quality and value of the food were lacking (especially in comparison to our experience at that other hotel). Overall, the Juma is a very lovely hotel with great rooms and location and comparable price point so one can't go wrong staying there...but if I were to return to Manaus, I'd first check availability a few doors down Ruo 10 de Julho
