Hotel Vauban

I stayed here recently. The location is great – right in the main square, close to restaurants, shops, and public transport. The hotel’s page does say there’s no elevator to the first floor and that it can be noisy because of the central location, but I didn’t pay attention to that when I booked. If you have heavy luggage or are a light sleeper, keep that in mind. Paulo at the front desk kindly helped carry my bags up the stairs, which I really appreciated. The breakfast was okay but very basic, with no choices – not bad, but definitely nothing special. The real problem is the shower box. It’s very tight, but the main issue is how the doors open, leaving only about 30 cm of space for anyone to enter. This is a serious problem for anyone, especially for someone who’s overweight and has a big belly – like my dad. The first night, he couldn’t even take a shower. While the reception was trying to find a solution with the supervisor, Patricia, the cleaner, stepped in and quickly sorted it out by removing one of the shower doors. It helped a lot, even though it meant flooding the bathroom during showers. So, while the location and staff were great, the noise, thin walls, basic breakfast, and tiny showers made the stay not as comfortable as I’d hoped
