The hotel undeniably looks great - well appointed, lovely rooms, gorgeous orangery. However the true essence of a hotel - service - is severely lacking! Receptionist at check in couldn’t find our booking, didn’t make any attempt to look in to it further until we said we had been charged that morning so definitely had, to which his reply was “oh I was looking in the wrong place”. Room wasn't ready on arrival (absolutely fine as we were about 10 minutes early) so we took a seat. Same receptionist made no effort to engage with us or tell us anything at all about the hotel. We could have asked but the general air was that he really wasn’t interested. When the room did become available, keys were simply handed over. No showround/assistance with luggage etc offered. Underwhelming to say the least. Arriving to the room it was clear to us as seasoned travellers that we had been upgraded (which was a lovely treat, thank you!) however this wasn’t communicated so we would be within our right to expect this every stay. Room was gorgeous however high dusting needs to be looked at. All mirrors and shower screens etc were only two thirds clean. Lighting in bedroom awful and completely useless for doing makeup etc. Lots of building work going on outside the hotel to be aware of if you’re not familiar with the area. As we had not been given information on breakfast, looked up service times online which said served until 10.30. Arrived at 10.10 to be told “well you just made it” disdainfully by the Supervisor/Manager on duty. Just to note another two couples came down after us so god knows what sort of welcome they got. Sadly every staff interaction made us feel like we were an inconvenience and we couldn’t wait to leave. 100% cannot recommend to anyone looking for a quality service led hotel. Really disappointed.
