Bear in mind this room cost £219 pn without breakfast Pros; Friendly helpful staff Clean and tidy room Spacious accommodation Cons; Accommodation requires serious investment Awful carpet, marked and stained beyond reasonableness, may have been previously been used on a building site The one good point about the carpet is that I didn't have to sleep on it, for that a bed was provided The bed itself was ok, the mattress was horrendous. It had such a dip in it it was almost a hammock. Previous guests must have included a herd of elephants or maybe an international rugby team including support staff. Sleep was virtually impossible the bed was so uncomfortable. Items similar to this were used during the Spanish Inquisition. The bathroom was clean, tidy and spacious, just don't look at the ceiling or walls. The ceiling has mould on it and the paint is flaking off of it. There is an extractor in the ceiling but it did not work. The walls in the bathroom, lobby, and main room entrance have water streaks on them. This could have been condensation but more likely is water from leakages from the room above. For various reasons I had been looking to stay at the Fox & Anchor for some time. This was a terrible disappointment, and in truth, a complete waste of money.
