Guiyu Homestay (Zhaoxing Dong Village Scenic Area)

Accommodation Options: Within the scenic area, within the village, or within 500 meters of the village gate—the best areas, bar none. Food Recommendations: Beef in Sour Soup, Steak with Local Sauce, Seasonal Vegetables, Handmade Vermicelli (avoid street vendors). Visit Spots: The five drum towers, five flower bridges, the village gate, and the observation deck—there are so many options. We recommend walking along the river for the most stunning views.

This B&B is located in Xiazhai, also known as the "head of the village." It's close to the bus stop and the Xintuan Drum Tower, making it a great place for families with children. Just a short walk downstairs brings you to the heart of the area. My friends who were traveling with me stayed in Shangzhai, which required them to walk through the entire village. This B&B is much more conveniently located than the others.

The commercial level of Zhaoxing is much better than other places. Except for the main street which is full of tourists, the village is lined with indigenous Dong people on both sides of the river. There is no need to compare it with a 100% pristine village. If it is not commercialized at all and there is no place for food and accommodation, people will not want to go there. Objectively speaking, the Dong village has a good balance between commerce and tradition.

First, find the Xintuan Drum Tower, a place known for its benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness. Then, find your homestay. If you can't find the owner, they'll pick you up about 20 meters away. Mornings are the best time to explore the Dong village. Local villagers trade their own fruits and vegetables under the drum tower, and it feels like the original morning in the Dong village. I bought local specialties from the elders (cash is recommended 💰).

Day 1: Congjiang High-Speed ​​Railway Station - 20-minute minibus ride to Zhaoxing Dong Village Health Center - walk 300-400 meters to the B&B. Day 2: Depart from the B&B - 5-minute shuttle ride - transfer to a minibus at the Shangzhai terminal - 30-minute ride to Tang'an Terraced Fields - play for over two hours - return to the scenic area for the bonfire evening party.

Someone mentioned that getting to the scenic area by bus is inconvenient and requires a lot of stops. I contacted the guesthouse in advance, and the host provided the following directions: 1. Take a minibus from the bus station, 100 meters from the high-speed rail exit, directly to Zhaoxing Dong Village. The ride takes about 20 minutes and costs 10 meters per person. Get off at the terminal and walk about 300 meters to the guesthouse. 2. If you're driving, park at the scenic area ticket office parking lot (20 meters per person), take the scenic area shuttle bus to the terminal (10 meters per person), and then walk about 400 meters to the guesthouse. I don't recommend taking the shuttle bus within the village, as it's crowded and you can't get on it. If you'd spent time waiting in line in the sun, you'd already reached the guesthouse.
