Stay at Sokkyo Lao Cai Hotel: A comfortable choice that combines modern convenience with local style
I recently visited Lao Cai, Vietnam, and stayed at the Sapa Legacy Hotel & Resort, which has a good reputation locally. The overall experience was impressive. Whether it is the location, service quality, or hardware facilities, it shows the advantage of high cost performance. It is very suitable for travelers who want to explore Lao Cai and surrounding attractions in Sa Pa in depth.
Excellent location and convenient transportation
The hotel is located in the center of Lao Cai, only about 10 minutes' drive from Lao Cai Railway Station, which is very convenient for passengers taking the ”Hanoi-Lao Cai” overnight train. In addition, the hotel is close to the bus terminal to Sabah, and the counter staff can assist in booking shuttle buses, saving you a lot of trouble in planning transportation. Although the surrounding area is not a busy business district, there are several local food stalls and convenience stores within walking distance, so daily necessities are sufficient.
The first impression when checking in was the professionalism and enthusiasm of the front desk staff. They can communicate in fluent English and even use simple Chinese for reception, and are quite friendly to international travelers. It is worth mentioning that the counter provides consultation services for surrounding attractions. It not only provides detailed introductions to must-visit routes such as Sabah Rice Terraces and Fansipan Peak, but also proactively assists in arranging chartered vehicles and tour guides to make itinerary planning more efficient.
Simple and comfortable rooms and facilities
The hotel's decoration is mainly modern and simple, integrating some traditional Vietnamese elements such as wood carvings and ethnic fabrics to create a warm atmosphere. This time we stayed in a ”Mountain View Double Room” on a high floor. The room was spacious and clean, the bed was of moderate hardness, the bathroom had separate wet and dry areas and sufficient water pressure. Although it is not a luxurious hotel, it is equipped with basic facilities such as air conditioning, safe, mini refrigerator, and free Wi-Fi. In particular, the large windows offer a distant view of the surrounding mountains, and the morning mist scenery is refreshing.
Local flavours and international selections
The hotel's restaurant offers Vietnamese and Western breakfasts. We recommend the freshly cooked Vietnamese noodles (Phở) and French bread (Bánh mì), which taste authentic. For dinner, you can order local specialties such as casserole chicken (Gà nấu nồi đất) or bamboo tube rice. The ingredients are fresh and the price is reasonable. If you want to explore local snacks, the counter staff will also enthusiastically recommend the nearby Old Street Night Market vendors.
The hotel also has self-service washing machines which are very convenient and inexpensive. When you don’t have time to wait for your clothes to be washed, the counter staff can help you at no extra charge. That’s really thoughtful.
High CP value hub accommodation
Overall, Lao Cai Sok Kio Hotel is an ideal base for exploring northwest Vietnam with its convenient location, sincere service and reasonable price. Whether it is a stopover to Sabah or a place to deeply experience the local culture of Lao Cai, this place can meet your needs. Recommended for travelers with limited budget, who value practicality and want to experience the Vietnamese people's touch!
Hands down ..The best value for money accomodation I have stayed at in SE Asia.
We stayed 1 night for our train trip to Hanoi. If I hadn’t paid for the train I would have stayed longer. Best location and excellent room with every facility you could want.

The location is good. It's by the Red River and it's strategically located less than 1km away from the Chinese-Vietnamese border. There're many convenience stores, restaurants, and coffee shops which make it very convenient.
The room is spacious and clean. The staff, although not very proficient in English, did try their best to communicate with me.
The limited breakfast options is the only ”wish could be better” for me but this is more than made up for by just how cheap their room rates are!
As a business traveler, this hotel goes on my list of preferred vendors.

Excellent location, there are many snack bars, coffee shops and entertainment on the nearby street. The hotel environment is elegant and comfortable, clean and hygienic. Chinese people need to take their documents (do not understand), check out and wait for the hotel staff to check the room before returning the documents.
Checking in process was a hassle, as I booked VIP room, but it registered as a suite. However, staff had good problem solving skills, and one guy offered tea for the trouble. Staff are attentive.
Room (suite) is spacious enough for a 4 star. Good selection of drinks provided in the room. One toothpaste was dried out, though. Furniture was old fashioned. Bed was average, pillows not very comfortable.
Location was great for entertainment, restaurants, and more. Unfortunately, the suite had poor soundproof design. Hens woke us up at 3am. Could hear pretty much the slightest of noise outside.
Overall, decent for the location. Major issue is the soundproof design. Not for light sleepers.
Good location in that it was near a lot of different food places. It was also along the waterfront. Great views of the waterfront from where I was at. Great views of the mountains and hills. I liked how it had a restaurant to eat at. The only thing that I didn't like was the minibar which was kind of tacky where they got you where they want you in making it convenient and tempting for you to eat but the food is more expensive than going to the stores to make some extra money off of you. I also didn't like how they were nitpicky in their variation of price charges on their laundry depending on which type of garment you are washing.
The taxi fare from Lao Cai Port is about 40K dong (12 yuan). The room is quite large. If you live on the 6th to 8th floors, you can see part of the street view of Lao Cai, including: Ga Lao Cai (train station), but the train station is no longer there at all. It’s lively, a bit like market towns in third- and fourth-tier cities in China. The hotel is very clean, similar to domestic chain stores, and is a three-star hotel. However, they check in after 14:00. If you check in early, you need to pay an additional 340K dong (100 yuan Rmb), and the original room rate is about 230. The scenery outside the hotel is not bad. There is a bay window to sit by and have a cup of coffee. It is quite comfortable (send a picture). Xiao Du (Ms.) at the hotel front desk can speak Chinese and there is no problem with basic communication. The owner (lady) of the small coffee shop on the right side of the hotel's main entrance is very kind and speaks good Chinese.
Pros: The building is pretty, the boss is friendly, in front of the hostel in the morning
You can eat at 20,000 Binmi, there is win mart right in front of the hostel
Cons: The location is bad (stop at Laokai bus station), the bedding smells not good, there are stains, the towel smells, the smell of cigarettes in the room.
The hotel and the location are great! Everything is new, good amenities!
The cleanliness is not perfect though: Our soap was already used and my feet were almost black after walking barefoot in the hotel room.
It was also quite loud, you can hear everything that is happening in the hallway.
Would still recommend!
